What you do is get some peanut butter on one side of two pieces of toast and normal butter on the other side, then put banana pieces in the middle, maybe with a drizzle of honey or some bacon, then you grill that shit up like grilled cheese, with butter on the outside. PB with honey or jam is a much better combo, although maple syrup is as good or better tasting than honey or jam.

Try using more real maple syrup. It really is underwhelming if there's not enough syrup.
