As subject say! Buying, trading, saving or even drinking?

First one out this Friday night for me, been in the cellar for one year and it does seem to have taken the right amount of hop edge away from it.
Very nice basic Imperial Stout!

Finally got a hold of something "stout/porter" like.

Fucking belgians ruining our country beer variety, too much good light trapist beer, as a result finding something dark other than guiness is hell because no one fucking drink any of it.

You the one complaining about not finding stouts locally some threads back then i guess?

Seen this one on the shelves a number of times and never picked it up as i had some misgivings about the style altogether, but after trying some darker lagers out i find it to be an interesting style of beers.
No matter ones opinion on Brewdogs image and advertising they do make some good beers and this is one of them indeed. Nice balance between bitterness and malt!

That beer is relatively bitter for a stout when it first comes out. The fresh, bitter hoppiness fades and becomes more subtle and fruity which compliments the malt better. Beers like that are made with aging in mind.

Right now it still has a distinctive acetaldehyde taste and smell, but that should go away during bottle conditioning. Apart from that it's rather dry and has some nice hops bitterness. ABV should be around 4.8% if my calculations/measurements are correct.

>not sure what I'm trying to accomplish with this post except to convey my opinion

yeah, no worries man.

I used to be a huge hop head when I first turned 21 but after a few years I'm just hopped out. I don't mind a hopped out of the ass DIPA here and there but I can only have one before I have to move on to something else. The only exception is Hopslam and English IPAs. Hopslam isn't the hoppiest beer but I still feel it's the most balanced DIPA out there. I wish the hop craze would end and breweries would start finding some balance to their IPAs. To this day the best IPA I had was an English style IPA I had at a local brewery here in northern Indiana.

Just like I can't really describe why I got tired of most IPAs, I can't really describe why I started to enjoy porters and stouts more. I love the lingering aftertaste.

Guiness is by far one of the lightest stouts out there. If you don't care for Guiness much the only thing I would recommend trying is a good milk stout or a light porter. I have a bit of a buzz so I'm just mindless ranting at this point.

Not really, for bourbon barrel aged beers, it takes some of the bourbon edge off.
Imperial Stouts aren't hoppy, I don't understand why the fucking retarded OP is using that to describe their bittness. Do you fucking call coffee hoppy too?

Some beers are fine to age if you don't like a certain prominent quality about them, but the breweries typically put them out to be enjoyed as is.

Sweet boozy smell with a hint of dark fruit, like chocolate covered berries, dark chocolate, big roasted notes

Get that sweet booziness and fruit in the beginning, a little overbearing, in the middle, superb big dark chocolate, pleasant big roasted finish

Poured in the rest of the can and it became an overly carbonated, overly acidic, burnt malt mess

Not sure why that happened, was enjoying the beer so much before that

8.5/10, would probably be higher if it weren't for that 2nd half of the can

2nd can was just putrid, I don't know what happened there, might've been something with my glass

No beer on hand atm unfortunately. Titrating a beta-blocker atm, and drinking while I'm on them risks a rash. But I do enjoy me some beers.

For darks beers, it depends on what I can afford. If I have the money to spare, I'll spring for a Speakeasy Bourbon-aged Scarface. For middle of the road, I go Speakeasy Payback Porter or Stone Smoked Porter. For cheap, I go Baltika 6.

For lighter beers, I'll almost always go for Franziskaner or Baltika 8. On rare occasions I'll drink Einstok's white ale when the SO buys it, but for the money I'd rather get Blue Moon, since they taste roughly the same.

I tried the Tempelier first, liked it, but not as much as Gulden Draak. Chimay I'd rate a bit below Tempelier.
Next up is some Brugse Zot my sister gave me, or the Carolus.

Had to trade off some stuff from the cellar with a guy who picked up quite a few of these so it did not come cheap for me.
It does smell and taste just to good for me to believe it could be done without adding some sort of artificial flavor, still for this type of heavy and thick stout it just works really well so i was not bothered at all by it, just impressed, looking forward to the barrel aged one, some night soon!

I like the Rochefort 8. Find the 10 a bit too boozy.
Bernardus 12 I think I found it too nutty or raisin, which I usually like, but just seemed "closed" in flavour, like a moldy wine waiting to breath.

All of those are more or less in the same league.

Lagunitas is one of the breweries i feel does have a "base" profile taste wise that they build all their beers around, the barley wines being thicker and more malty than the ipas and so on. Oh, there's a really nice bar in the college district of seoul. it's on one of the back streets and pretty dark, but there's about three of them side by side. One of them (the yellow one) has local brews which are hit or miss, but there's a darker (black/brown color scheme) bar that's sort of like a lounge (has a really huge candle near the front) that had some really nice brews. It's near the 7-11 on the main street through that part of town.

But you're probably going to songtan and in which case sorry bro there's not shit for bars that are decent. Korean beer is swill.

Way better than the last bottle of Consecration I had. Really good. Not like most sours where you lose 100% of the base beer's flavor. It also doesn't have an overwhelming cherry tartness to it which is nice. I love that I can still taste that it's a brown ale. I love that the cherry isn't being used to simply add more sweetness or more acidity. RR makes some incredible sours and I'm very happy to only live an hour and a half away from them.
