you could have cleaned it up by putting the puree as the base, the haddock on top of it, and then the veggies over top of the haddock.

You are the worst kind of human and literally cancer to these threads and in that respect, given that these are the most topical food and cooking threads in a food and cooking community, you are cancer to the board and community and I'd like you to fuck off please.

Your very existance is dicouraging people from contributing and I just want to see what people are eating. But your pretentious critique on matters that aren't relevant means that people are only inclined to contribute if they either do a fantastic job and want to show off or they ironically post a shitty meal that they put together quickly because they were in a lazy mood. With your attitude there's no normal everyday meals that people are simply eating. The only time any normal person bothers to pay attention to 'plating' is on special occasions for special guests. So not every dish in this thread needs to be perfectly plated. So fuck you, basically. Really, just get fucking fucked.

If people are eating mac and cheese then I want to see that too. So, again, fuck you with all of my fuckness you fucking, fucking cunt.

No. Not eating. Posting.

Of course people don't eat fancy presentations for every meal. But what's the point in posting ordinary everyday food? What justifies the time, bandwidth, etc, to take pictures of mediocre stuff? If it's not exceptional in some way what's the point in posting or discussing it?

i think there are two things you judge when you see a picture of the food: how *pretty* it is and how *well made* it looks. they are distinct things. i just think if you post something that is clearly well made and people criticise its visual composition in exclusion of that fact, that's a shame.

>> No.6771851

>>6771838

I think how pretty something is and how well made it is go hand in hand. It either looks appetizing to me or it doesnt, and OP's plate didnt look good to me.

If you cba to make something that looks good then odds are its not going to taste good. Case in point: every single jack vid ever

If i knew nothing about jack and just saw the end results of his cooking i could infer that it was poorly made

>> No.6771858

>I think how pretty something is and how well made it is go hand in hand.

do they though? stuff like lighting, proportion and geometry are really important to how the plate *looks* but not really to how good the food is. like in the OP dish if the puree and vegetables were either kept separate or not plonked unceremoniously on the plate, it would look a lot better. but that doesn't mean it was bad at all.

we don't need to talk about jack as a reference for thsi conversation. i'm fucking sick of hearing about jack.

>i think there are two things you judge when you see a picture of the food: how *pretty* it is and how *well made* it looks.
A third option, and the one that's most important to me, is how nutritious the meal is.
I don't care too much how well a meal is cooked because if I replicate the meal then somebody else's cooking ability is irrelevant. I'd be cooking it myself so only my own cooking ability is relevant. Though if a meal that I intend on replicating is well cooked and I manage to fuck it up then I may ask for tips and tricks.
Also, plating really means nothing to me. The only time I care is when someone piles their food on a plate in such a way that I can't see the individual ingredients.

So basically the things that I value the most, in seeing other people's food, are:

> nutrition
for healthy meal ideas
> cultural diversity
seeing what other cultures are eating (also for nutritional diversity)
> cooking ability
in case I need to ask for help
> plating
just so I can see what's on the plate.

>>6771830
>presentation is obviously even MORE important than anything else when youre posting a PICTURE of the food for other people to judge.
> to judge
Not everyone is as judgemental as you, and your inclination to be so judgmental suggests that you live in constant fear of being judged yourself (which, in turn, suggests a lack of self esteem). Please consider not projection your self esteem issues onto others by being overly judgmental about issues that are essentially irrelevant.
This isn't an Arts & Crafts board. It's a Food & Cooking board. Presentation isn't a primary concern.

lol it's chicken and greens and a sweet potato. my point was that it doesn't look like somebody threw up on a plate (pubes aside)

Somebody who really cares about their food rather than the presentation wouldn't clumsily burn their chicken.

Are you eating off of a pot top?

I mean, youre going to get some charring on there if you dont butterfly a ~1 lb chicken breast ya dumbass

>implying it doesnt taste great anyway

My point is that OP's pic looks like throw up on a plate and even if youre just making simple food foryourself at home there is no reason to eat something that looks like throwup

I don't know what it is, tbh. It's made of glass so I think it might be a (wildly impractical) fruit bowl.

Op here

Lots of food looks like throw up. I made a presentational mistake folding the sautéed veg through the purée but there's nothing neglectful about that dish apart from that aspect, especially for a weekday meal. I do care about my food.

So you've got a pound of potatoes there? 10/10 would eat while drunk.

>>6783111
Well played.

>>6783282
Looks tasty. You'd have a perfectly balanced breakfast if you sprinkled some cheese over everything and had a glass of orange juice.

>>6788433
Your food looked fine, OP. There's always gonna be some shitposters.
