I just added two cups of soya sauce to my peanut sauce and I was wondering why is was so salty. How could I misread and not even notice it was only 2 tbsp.

>> No.6683888

Basic reasoning should have told you that 2 cups was too much.

I can't figure out how it didn't until after I tasted it. Never again

Have you ever tasted soy before. It's pure salt. It's like putting in 2 cups of cayenne because you misread. All common sense should warn you not to.

are you retarded? i wouldn't even use that much soy sauce to marinate 10 lbs of short ribs to make kalbi...

Wasn't there a guy a few days ago that put 2 tablespoons of baking powder instead of 2 teaspoons?

Ah, forgot to finish. I think it was biscuits and he had to add 8 cups more flour. He's probably still eating those.

You poured out 2 cups of soy sauce and said this is a reasonable amount for a sauce

I don't belive you. Soy sauce comes in containers smaller than two cups, you're making this up.

No, american chinese hell even mexican markets sell the 64 oz bottles.

>> No.6684028

it wouldn't just be "salty" it would be absolutely inedible (given what it was added to and the small amount needed). It's not like it's synonymous with salt. It has shit tons of its flavor also. Completely made up story x2 agreed not to mention if you have a 64 ounce container of it you know it's usage and that nothing in a pan uses 2 cups of it. Otherwise, 2 cups don't even come in a bottle of it.

It comes in American sizes too.

as for the horrible mistakes part of this thread, my first time brining chicken. I mixed like half a gallon of water with half a bottle of garlic powder, like 8 tablespoons fresh ground black pepper, and an entire pound of salt. I also didn't know it was suppose to be rinsed off after brining and you don't have to leave it in there in the fridge for 24 hours. Dunno if it was moist or not after cooking. First bite I spat out all over my plate and said don't eat the chicken.

What if you use a lot of soy sauce but don't like buying small amounts in over priced bottles? That jug would last me several months and only costs a bit more than a tiny bottle.

I do, I cook Vietnamese food almost every single meal. You fucking need soy sauce for everything, even making Korean or weeb food.

I made a similar mistake, except I mistook teaspoons for tablespoons when adding lemon juice to my first ranch sauce. Jokes on them, I really enjoyed my ultra-citrus ranch.

I made strawberry jam. Then I added a packet of citric acid.

Problem: The recipe meant ~10g. I added more.

No amount of sugar was able to fix this.

I love sour stuff. I eat citric acid straight when I have it, up until it cracks my tongue.

What if you made a super sour type real fruit jam for kids to put on bread or crackers or something? Isn't one of the fads really sour things? Maybe it could work out. Who knows.

I buy one liter bottles in a cylindrical form, but a similar amount. Sometimes I'll cook a stir-fry 3 times a week, and that's the prime ingredient in most of the sauces I make. The tiny bottles make sense if you use ready-mixed sauces, and just put soy sauce on the table for people to add if they want, or if you make dishes with soy once a month, but if you use it with any frequency you want at least one liter bottles.

Still hard to imagine OP thinking 2 cups would make sense, but maybe never cooked with soy sauce before. Some American kid nearly died from chugging a bottle of soy sauce a couple years back...that much salt will fuck you up!

garlic

whatever that is, that sounds delicious.

I eat 1 bulb of garlic per day through my cooking.

I add about 3-5 cloves (depending on size) to my salad alone. Dice fine, add some chopped/diced onion, add some diced tomatoes, add some shredded colby-jack cheese and slap that mix on top of any salad.

Then usually some type of vinaigrette as dressing.

it comes out thru your skin pores, also. Which is why eating garlic keeps those sexy female vampires away. I hope you don't sweat at work and have a good cushy air conditioned job. Not for my sake but for the people who work near you. I also love garlic as well but not that much. Whole new dimension in my world.

A small price to pay for such deliciousness and health benefits.

In any case, if more people ate more garlic, people wouldn't care as much.

as to your first part of the post, true story. More people should eat fresh garlic as well as fresh other stuff so I am in agree
