It's not just that. Most street vendors keep cleaner conditions than restaurants and everything is cooked. They serve hundreds of people every day and can't really be serving stuff that makes their patrons sick. At least in India the general rule was that you're less likely to get sick of street food than restaurants that don't see much bisuness.

I had a routine down, too. I lived on a hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 15.

Hotel breakfast before morning workout. Lunch: two chicken thighs and a papaya salad from two different street vendors, Dinner: This chicken and noodle soup with outdoor seating (cost about $1 for the serving).

One of the best things I ever tasted over there was some pork dish in Lao along the river that separated the country from Thailand. It was a stand-alone hut in the middle of nowhere and cost next to nothing. Even with tip it was a few dollars.

In Cambodia, I decided to walk from the airport to the main city and stopped in an open air market and sat down among the locals on a tiny plastic chair along a service table and had whatever was good.

More recently, in Tarija in Souther Bolivia, I would eat in this large open-air market place with little food vendors packed together selling chicken and pork and beef dishes. You could eat a plate full of fresh food for a dollar or two. Pic related.
