I don't see how McDonalds could possibly achieve high quality burgers with their techniques and means.
Besides, that would be a transformation too radical. It would be wiser for them to just buy a smaller brand and make it global maintaining both markets (cheap fast food and good burgers) on their reach.
What would be great is a global coop-style chain of independent burger places offering high quality meals, not shitty McDonalds trying to be In-n-Out.

Maybe it's because of my area but McDonalds is in no way cheap for me. On the rare occasion I do get it, the McDouble is like 1.49 and a Big Mac combo is over 7 bucks!

For food of that low quality it should not cost me that much, I can get a double double meal at In-n-out cheaper then most of McDonald's combo.

I totally agree that they need to realize what they are, they're a safe net, you know what you're getting it's not the highest quality but people still get it. Their prices need to reflect that.

>BK is the absolute bottom rung of the chain fast food ladder.
Everything about that sentence is wrong.

McDonalds is currently the lowest in the burger department and arguably a mid-tier chicken.

Burger King is a mid-tier burger with with a low tier chicken.

There was literally a thread about this yesterday explaining how McDonalds corners the market in high amounts of cheap stuff while Burger King makes the fancier $5 burger.
However, the only reason to go to a Burger Kings would be if there's no Carls Jr, Jack in the Box, or In and Out around.

>> No.6475282

I can't remember the last time I bought anything from their main menu; chicken nuggets are for little kids and a big-mac is a little tiny thing, as are the rest of their sandwiches. For 7 dollar 'meals' they are never worth even considering, despite somehow having 1000+ calories for a sandwich, fries and soda. I don't even want their fries or anywhere because eating greasy, salty potato strings is never appealing at any fastfood restaurant.

McDonalds HAD two things going for them: their 'dollar menu' which is now a 'value menu' which has nothing to offer over any other fastfood chain because the only two items worth buying (the mc-chicken and the mcdouble) aren't even a dollar anymore, they're like 1.50 at least. They had come out with a couple variations of their cheeseburgers, but they really did suck, with maybe the exception of their onion-burgers.

The second is their breakfast which only has a couple desirable items, and it's really the only reason one would go there. Their egg mcmuffin meal is like 5 bucks, and it actually has the LEAST amount of calories out of any fast food value menu item, so it's a shit value too. They're being taken over by tacobell, which has a lot more variety in their breakfast, and products in general.

I feel like the only reason one would want to go to a fastfood restaurant is to order al-a-cart, or a bunch of custom items that are like opening little presents, rather than a "food, side order, drink" thing.

Just give up already. Their time has passed. Society has evolved and we've gone back to our roots and rediscovered importance of proper nutrition.

An animal's primary function is to find food and if you look at any wild animal you'll see that it devotes most of it time doing that. Only then will it seek out a mate. Humans are no different but we evolved to manufacture our own food so that we didn't need to hunt for it any more. But during the baby boomer era good nutritious food was phased out for more profitable food and humans eventually lost sight of why we eat. So we ate (and got addicted to) salt and sugar filled crap that has the nutritional value of plastic. McDonald's represents that. It's shitty plastic food that has no nutritional merit and has been extensively tested to be as addictive as possible to children, which raises some moral and ethical issues. I don't trust them.

It's revolutionary. You can use a computer terminal to ask them to hold or add more of items. The thinking is that this will lure back customers who are eating at Chipotle. Because, you know, personalization is the only difference between Chipotle and McDonald's.

Their order entry program is limited to 10 times the amount of any item. There were news stories last week about a guy who tricked out a Big Mac with 10x of everything, for about $25.

The main issue is their hiring practices, Mcdonalds pays min wage and caps your hours so you can't get benefits. As a result, only the dumbest people work there (redguards, migrant laborers tec) because even picking grapes pays better. Every time I walk into a regular Mcdonalds (aka, a non-franchised outlet) I immediately regret it because the staff usually don't wear their uniforms and sit on their cellphones letting my food burn (and Mcdonalds food can barely be called food as is).

If McD had any sense, they'd franchise out more stores because it's clear that McD corporate cannot run day to day operations for shit. Likewise, most towns usually have 2-3 McDs on their main drag within ten miles of each other and divide their revenues as a result. There's just too many stores, most of which are staffed by shit employees. The expensive food (McD's value menu in my state is now $6) doesn't help either when even grocers can sell you a cheaper meal. Mcdonalds only has convenience, but only if you live in a suburb and commute in a car every day.

It's no secret that euro McD is better than American McD. Here in the states, Mcdonalds is what your workaholic parents buy for dinner because they don't have any time to make food, or it's what you pick up at a truck stop. Then again, $10 meals aren't cheap against making your own food, but it's still cheaper than a proper $15 or $20 meal at a Carls Jr or deli inside a grocery store.

Actually, that's precisely the conclusion McD's has come to. Article "McDonald's to Refranchise 3,500 Restaurants Worldwide" on http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/245809 published just today.

"While 81 percent of McDonald's locations worldwide are currently owned and operated by franchisees, the company wants to increase that percentage to about 90 percent by the end of 2018."

Besides company-owned store employees sucking, they're about to cost more, as McD's caved in to pressure to pay increase pay by $1/hr within two years in company-owned US restaurants. The way they'll pay for it is by selling virtually all their company-owned US restaurants to franchisees. Then they can keep boosting their wages and brag about how all their workers earn at least $15 an hour.

>> No.6478379

>>6478377

True, and it's a good start. I'm not certain if they'll be able to implement it though, because in many cases it would require downsizing (aka, two franchises in a town going down to one) which goes against their corporate philosophy.

No the menu is pretty much the same with a few different things specific to the Japanese market. The difference is that they make everything except the fries fresh for pretty much every order. High traffic areas utilize the hot plate trays but those burgers are gone so fast anyway. However if you've ever had a freshly made Big Mac in America you've had the exact same tasting Big Mac as here.

However McDonald's is quickly losing the Japanese market. McD is expensive here and is currently sitting a few yen under the much nicer and tastier burgers at Mos Burger and all the other Japanese chains. At Mos Burger the ingredients and food are actually fresh and pretty quality for a fast food place. Not to mention the service is miles ahead of McD's in every way. They've been closing up chains left and right because people have realized theres not much of a reason to go to McDs anymore when compared to the competition

Plus in the past year McDs has had a number of problems. You couldn't order anything larger than a small fries for a few months because of supply chain problems with their potatos from America. There were 3 separate incidents related to chicken, one affected all fast food restaurants (with the exception of KFC), but the other two were from people finding plastic and a tooth in the chicken nuggets.

I LOVE IT!

They need to deniggerize Madonis and market to white people again, that's why everybody thinks it's gross now, it might as well be Newports and grape drink, it's pure nog territory now

In Asia, it's completely different, it's preppy and professional and the service is incredible

This is what they need to do in America, only hire the nicest, most attractive teenagers, pay the hell out of them and hire from the inside so that they feel like it's a career and not a blow off job and they need to stress AMAZING cult-like customer service and spotless facilities

Next they need to utilize their appeal, they reach millions of people every single day, they should start promoting music and movies and video games... not just advertising them but finding new and interesting materials and introducing people to them, maybe some indie stuff

Finally they need dignified packaging, like the kind they had in the 80's and new uniforms, really cute ones that people are proud to wear but that look professional

As for the food... cut it WAY back, serve the same old thing but serve it PIPING hot and perfectly neat with a big smile

This will revitalize McDonald's

I think one thing McDonalds could do to improve their image is work on their customer service and overall image. I mean, REALLY work on their customer service. I know McDick's is basically your standard starter job with a bunch of young assholes who don't care about what they're doing and how they're doing it, but when I think of going there for food the first thing that pops into my mind is some teenager behind the counter going "WHAT CANNA GET YA'LL" as bored as possible and everything just being chaotic as fuck and it's just a really unpleasant place to be. I don't mean it needs to be like a library in there, but I dunno, something about McDonald's image just irks me. I don't get that sensation from other fast food joints.

It's like they're trying too hard to be yuppie and simultaneously catering to the lowest common denominator and it's really jarring. I guess they're introducing kale now? No. Quit it. They need to drop this whole suburban-soccer-mom-gluten-free-kale-chips aesthetic they're trying to pull off and stop trying to be something they're not.

No, in order for a ketchup product to use the term "Fancy" on the packaging, it has to meet USDA "Fancy" requirements. There's specific measurements that are taken on the product to ensure quality. Nope. No other generation embraced capitalism like the boomers did and they ruthlessly sacrificed quality of life for profit. Their parents didn't consider canned food to be a luxury at all. Instead it was a necessity to send food to their husbands who were at war.

But back on topic, I think that if McDonald's are to survive they need to adopt two separate menus. One for the window and one for the restaurant. The window can still serve the same quick crap that they currently do but in the restaurant you can have proper counter meals that take a little longer to prepare. Steak Diane, chicken parmigiana, Risotto, etc. Simple counter meals that you would expect to see on a pub menu.
If McDonald's ever obtained a liquor licence, and served six-packs through the window then they'd make a killing.
Add filling and nutritious meals in the restaurant and they'd become a shareholder power house.
I don't know know what a shareholder power house is but it sounded good in my head.
McDonald's need to reinvent themselves and evolve as society has evolved. Gen x, y, z, want nutritious food and are tired of being forced fed crap from everybody (parents, gov't, Fox news, restaurants, etc).

Last time I went to get someone a big mac meal at 10:50AM and they refused me telling me they're still on the breakfast menu. I'm thinking "bitch, if you can't even sell your flagship product 24/7 then you don't deserve to be in business". Their breakfast menu is shit, and no one wants stupid fruits and wraps, we want greasy burgers and fries cheap.

They need to make a fry combo, just a bucket of fries for $5. Potatoes are so goddamn cheap, why they have to charge so much? People love the mcrib but they keep mothballing the thing...

I already know their plan, it's the same stupid crap they've been doing for the past 10 years. Keep selling this healthy premium image and introducing more expensive combos. Not going to work idiots.

God if mcdonald's sold a fry bucket I'd be all over that shit

Instead of everyone chipping in to buy a pizza we could just buy a huge-ass fry bucket

You know what McDonalds needs to do in the USA?

give us some of the menu items from their foreign markets. poutine and tomago burgers would be a nice start.

>McDonalds will never stop being shit until they quit using that shitty "Fancy Ketchup" and switched to a decent brand.

Pittsburgh area McDonald's restaurants used to use Heinz for years... then a former CEO of Burger King took the helm of H.J. Heinz, so McDonald's flipped shit and dropped it entirely.

Fancy is a USDA grade for ketchup, not a brand.

When Supersizing first appeared, a Quarter Pounder meal-- a number 3 iirc-- was less than $4.

Now the shit is like 8? 10?

Does anyone else have problems with McDicks fucking up orders. Where I live Mcdonald's is notorious for that shit. Almost every damn time you go through the drive thru you'll get home to find at least one item missing. Sometimes an entire meal if you're buying for more than one person. One time I got home and my double Quarter Pounder was the bottom half of the bum and a single, dry, sad patty. I've never experienced it with other fast food chains. It's insane. Eight times out of ten something will be missing, fucking guaranteed.

well, you're too stupid to check before leaving so I'm sure you're the type who can't order food properly.

the manager of the one near me is a sexist cunt so only women work there, mostly highschool girls who always get my orders wrong. once they gave me cheese on a mcdouble when i asked for none and rectified it by giving me 2 medium fries, all i ordered was that mcdouble. bitches don't know what they're doing.

Sounds like you just have a shit McDonald's. Service is gonna be the main difference between locations. Some will be 10x better than others. Also reduce your fractions, son.

Around there it's hit and miss. There are places where I stopped going because of that shit + undercooked fries. Some places are decent, though, some are even as good as the TV ads.
Gotta learn to try places and make your choice.
