If you're interested in competing, there are a few simple guidelines we ask you to follow. Your entry will be disqualified otherwise.

-Please timestamp your submission! Detailing the cooking process/posting a vertical is encouraged but not required. If posting multiple photos, you don't need to timestamp each one, as long as the final submission photo is timestamped.
-You MUST use a unique identifier; if you don't want to use a tripcode, you must have some other way to distinguish yourself from the other contestants, such as a cute bird or scary statue in your timestamped entry, as long as it's clearly visible and you use it consistently.

Voting will be carried out in this thread. Please read the voting guidelines below.

**

VOTING GUIDELINES

Voting follows an 'Iron Chef' style scoring system. This means you, the people of /ck/, will judge each entry individually instead of deciding on what you feel is the "best" dish.

Dishes are scored out of a total 20 points, based on 4 categories (worth a maximum of 5 points each); Presentation, Originality, Appeal and Challenge Goals. You may award 0's if you feel the contestant did not meet your expectations for a category.

-Presentation: The appearance of items on the plate; plating skills
-Originality: Creativity in composing the dish
-Appeal: How appetizing the food looks/whether or not the dish appeals to your personal taste as a voter
-Challenge Goals: How closely the entry followed the challenge goal(s)

The distinction between Presentation and Appeal: If someone submits an artfully arranged but burnt steak as an entry, it may score high in Presentation but low in Appeal.

The theme of Round Three is...

Beans!
We did rice last year, only fair that we should offer a round of /ck/’s second most recommended food to buy.

While you're perfectly welcome to make a large spread of food, please make sure there is clearly a "main dish" because that is what people will be voting on.

This is an open round, meaning that anyone can enter. Elimination begin next round, where the top 15 contestants will be announced!

Are these baked beans or green ones?

Also, could someone explain a bit about how the competition works? How are people knocked out, how do we end up with a winner, what kinds of prizes are there?

>> No.6334248

>>6334234
Pulse. Dried beans of any and all kinds.

See the blog for past years of the challenge
http://ckchallenge.blogspot.ca/

Every entry gets scores. The top 15 with the highest cumulative score at the end of the 3 open rounds proceed to elimination. The grand winner this year wins a custom /ck/ challenge apron and a trophy. Other prizes can be won during specific rounds (ie : round 2 was a prize round). Prizes vary but are always thematically linked to the challenge and/or round won.

I mostly only lurk /ck/, and I don't come here very often. How does this board feel about weed food? I've never seen any threads about it, so would I get a lot of negative responses if I used weed butter in my dish? Don't know how I'd work it with beans though.

I am from Quebec. A sugar shack is where one makes maple syrup. And after a long day walking through the woods to collect buckets of maple sap, there's a typical "sugar shack" meal to be had. Usually some kind of giant omelette, some pork rinds, bacon, potatoes cooked in maple sap, cretons, maple baked beans with salted lard in them, yellow pea soup, pancakes, lots of fresh maple syrup...

If you don't know anyone with a maple land commercial sugar shacks will give you the meal, a walk on their land and usually a petting zoo.

Or you can go to "urban" sugar shacks in Montreal, which pop up at this time and serve maple toffee. Or, if you can get a reservation, go to the Cabane du Pied do Cochon and eat an incredible amount of gastronommic version of the classics.

So beans are a traditional sugar shack thing for me ;-)

*Crashes through window*

Hello boys and girls, and welcome to the first(and probably last) episode of Cooking with Dumbass. I am your host, Dumbass!

For your consideration this evening, I present my world famous Black Bean Pizza! And unlike those hippies who make a black bean pizza by just putting black beans on a fucking pizza, I made the pizza out of the fucking beans!

The "crust" is made out black beans mixed with ground up potato chips, hot sauce, and onion powder! The sauce is a tomato-mushroom sauce. And the cheese is your average 6 cheese blend you can find at Publix. Sprinkled on top is Oregano and Garlic powder with parsley. YUM!

To cook it, I just put it in the toaster oven until I was bored. And presentation be damned, I ate this fucker on the tin foil because picking it up is impossible.

I hope you enjoy, and thanks for tuning in! See you next time.....?!

7= /biz/ /diy/ /gd/ /g/, /3/
8= /b/ or (reroll)
9= Any other unlisted board
0= Your homeboard

The "challenge goal" would be, "who most accurately sums up their given board in culinary form".

I'd be excited and interested how someone would interpret rolling a porn board. If I did so, I'd probably attempt to get a penis from my butcher, cook up some chicken breasts, and there you'd have it. Tits AND a dick.

Here's mine: I made an enchilada/chilli fusion, for maximum meaty tastiness. Beans are in the chilli, obviously, and the enchilada sauce contains some of the chilli, making the whole thing really hearty.

I don't mean the beans, I mean you don't give a shit at all.

You put absolutely no effort into making your dish look appealing, you just slapped it on a plate with some ketchup or something on top.

I just mean you half-assed it, and as a result I don't think you ever really wanted to contribute at all. Regardless of what the ingredient was, you could have tried to dress it up a bit, or something, but you chose not to.

Forgot to timestamp but I could take a picture of my trash can if necessary I guess.

Used three different kinds of beans. Cannellini beans for the base of the soup, roasted garbanzo beans for a contrasting texture, and butter beans for the salad. The salad also contains arugula, sun dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, feta cheese and a basil vinaigrette.

Favorite part was probably dipping the ciabatta bread in the creamy soup.

Gonna post my version soon, I find it better tbh.
> >1 VŽ vegete (?) - 1 tbsp of Vegeta - pic related
t's an all purpose seasoning made from salt, 15%MSG and some dried vegetables. Usually put in soups and stews.
Leave this one out, seriously. It's for dumb housewifes who can't make their dished flavorful, it has a strong distinctive taste and many people put way too much (it says one tbsp in the recipe, holy shit even 1 teaspoon would be too much). There's going to be a lot of flavor from bacon, garlic and paprika already.

> >1 VŽ slatke koncentrata od rajčice (tomato puree?) - that's right, tomato puree, you can leave that out too.

> >30 g masnoće (?) - pork lard

Forgot trip again, damn.

>300 g onion
>3 cloves garlic
>1 tbsp sweet paprika
>1 teaspoon spicy paprika(optional, if you don't like spicy, sweet paprika is enough.)
>150 g smoked bacon
Alternatives: prosciutto(which I used on pic related), pancetta.
>vegetable/canola/sunflower oil to sauté the onions on
>500 g white beans
>1 tbsp ajvar or ljutenica(optional)
You can actually use any kind of beans, I mixed red beans and cannellini.

>1. chop up the onions, sauté on oil for 4 minutes
>2. chop up bacon and garlic, add to the pan and reduce heat, sauté for 2 minutes
>3. Add paprika and stir well
>4. Add beans, salt and pepper(as much as you feel it's enough) and stir until evenly combined
>5.If you have ajvar/ljutenica, add 1 tbsp
>6. stir on low heat for 5 minutes

Some recipes use roux, but this it came way too thick without using one so I don't think it's neccessary. You can also bake them in the oven on 180 Celsius after adding the beans, mine doesn't work so I couldn't do it. Almost every family has a different recipe for this dish.

Between work and school and playing with my immersion circulator I don't have time to make a real meal with beans.

However, I have this every day for breakfast and coffee beans are beans so it counts for me!

People do this all the time for fun. Whatsername's Szechuan dumplings, mentioned in the previous round, were posted just kinda at random some time during the year, not for any Challenge or contest.

This just happens to be yet another way of having fun. Deal with it.

Since the damage is already done; what is harm in discusing on-topic dishes? Can I ask for the recipe,or help in a recipe posted in this thread without you being a little bitch?
How about you weed out the comments you want to reply to.

part 1:

I tried to differentiate a bit in the "challenge goals" by, in part, variety of the beans.

Presentation seems haphazard, although the radishes make me think you tried to do an arrangement of some sort. I'm not seeing any sort of real recipe or plan there, more like "here's what was in the fridge, throw it on a plate".

I took away an appeal point for no raw chopped onions on top. Presentation would have been better if it were less watery.

Radicchio makes everything look pretty. I question the flavor combination of pitting its bitterness against the blandness of the beans, though.

I was wondering whether you do keep track of who's rated what actually, mainly because it'd be interesting to see average distributions. I expect that'd be more hassle than it's worth though.

>I'm not seeing any sort of real recipe or plan there, more like "here's what was in the fridge, throw it on a plate".
That's pretty spot on to be honest, I don't really know any bean recipes, so I took all the bean-like things I had and tried to make a salad.
