The Beer and alcohol market in Ontario, Canada, is heavily regulated both by the government, and by the corporations that own the Brewer's Retail Incorporated, most people know it as the Beer store though. Literally the only places you can legally buy booze are either the LCBO and the aforementioned Beer Store. I could go into detail, but it's exactly what you'd expect, and most times you're not going to pay less than 3.75 for a 11.5 oz bottle of macro stuff at a bar.

I'm homebrewing now, because even an expensive beer or mead will cost nowhere near that, and taste better.

Orrgh.

Back when it wasn't sold in Ohio the Pittsburgh fags sure musta taken it seriously. (Legend has it there was seriously bad blood between the brewery and Paul Brown that led to it being not sold in Ohio. Out of spite.)

>Live in Cincinnati.
>At a wake for a friend's father.
>See dudes with a cooler full of Yuengling.
>Never got to try any before.
>"Oooh, I heard of that. May I try one?"
>"Are you from Pittsburgh?"
>"Er, no. I'm from Ohio?"
>"Sorry, Ohio don't get any."

The legend was that the Yuengling founder was trying to get a foothold in Ohio by approaching Paul Brown to sell the beer in his stadium. At the last minute Paul Brown decided to go with Budweiser. Budweiser became the shitty beer of football fans everywhere and the Yuengling owners were so pissed off they cut Ohio out of the distribution hub for decades. It became somewhat a matter of pride that Pennsylvanians got to have it and Ohio went thirsty. And a duty that this status quo would be maintained as a sacred duty by Pennsylvanians.

PS: So it comes to Ohio and I finally try some years after the wake. It's really okay-ish but not anything worth making into a religion/sacrament of state pride.
