Hey cu/ck/s

I'm heading into town next week and was curious about trying the Indian place. What are the best Indian dishes to try out your first time?

>> No.6202262

Lamb vindaloo

>> No.6202267

>>6202255
Chicken tikka misala
Banchode maruchode (might have to ask, every Indian place makes it but it's not always on the menu)
Hope this helps

palak paneer

>> No.6202299

Be sure to get some garlic naan.

Also side question but what are chutneys used for? Are they like a salsa?

What is this chode dish you speak of?

I think so. That's all I've ever used them as.

>>6202255
Depends on what part of India they represent. I can't get a single one of the dishes mentioned in this thread at my favourite Indian place, a Muslim take away joint, for example. Do you know? Or do they have a menu or website online for us to read through for you?

They call is Shahi, which I assume is of Kabul Shahi

It's a roasted duck with a curry. Very delicious. Ask for mild if you don't like spicy food. Not sure if I spelled it right but it's the chef special at my favorite Indian place and I get it every time

>>6202326
So probably Muslim/Pakistani. Get chapli, then. It's like a Pakistani hamburger. It's so. Fucking. Good. Wrap it up in naan and you're golden.

You've never been to an Indian before? Cool, first time ought to be interesting.

I'd just ask the guy what he recommends really, unless he seems completely uninterested or just points you at a set menu. Otherwise, I'd get a chicken tikka something, but probably plain rather than masala so the char stands out more. Lamb jalfrezi or bhuna, and whatever vegetable you like most.

How hot do you like your food?

If you like it stupidly hot go for a Vindaloo if you don't like spicy food at all go for a Korma. Though chances are the Korma is probably not that great. Oh and get some chapatis or other Indian flatbread to go with the curry. Possibly even instead of rice. If they do a proper Bhuna that could be good too. Lamb is preferable to chicken too as a curry in India is generally made with goat.

Try some lime pickle as well as the usual mango chutney.

I'm a sucker for a Lamb Karahi (medium-hot)
If you like mild shit, garlic butter/butter chicken is gr8.

I'm on the border with heat. I can enjoy spicy foods, but I don't like spicy foods where I can only taste heat.

I'm a food pleb clearly

Don't go for a Vindaloo then though if it wasn't known just for being absurdly hot then it would be a better curry. It's a dish from Goa so has Portuguese influences such as a ton of white wine vinegar and garlic used in cooking it made one for myself recently which toned down the heat and it was delicious. But back to the topic on hand honestly just ask the person serving or just go with something that sounds nice. The local curry-houses here list the spices in each curry and allow you to try the same sauce with a different meat so if it's like that just pick something that sounds good. I can't really think of a bad curry sauce to avoid and it isn't an acquired taste or anything like that. Just hope you enjoy it.

Never had a bad one from any Indian

>> No.6204019

Daal is pretty good. Also chickpea ones.

They usually have specials which are worth trying. If you don't mind spice just get a normal one, like a madras. Baltis are good also.

I don't see it but you should still ask about their banchode-maruchode. Indians make the best duck in the world.

It sounds weird but call your waiter/waitress "muhnkie" when you order, they'll give you extra good service (Hindi tradition).

Chicken paneer is very good btw.
