I get what you're saying and if I'm doing it for myself that's what i'd have (plus mushrooms) but that's not a 'full' english though is it? if i was in a caf and ordered a full english and it was just bacon egg and sausage i would be pissed off.

>> No.6159774

>>6159764
No but a lot of places leave out at least one of other ingredients. Very few cafes include black pudding as standard, I've never seen anywhere with bubble & squeak and there's always some places that don't include beans or mushrooms.

Most cafes basically just offer different sized 'full english' breakfasts each one including more and of the various elements.

>> No.6159791

>>6159774 (cont)

A lot of big department stores with cafes inside also offer a 6, 8, 10 etc item 'full english' where you just choose what you want from the hotplate.

I live in Arkansas, and I've never had a full breakfast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_breakfast)) before, but I do something similar that I like to eat every once and awhile.

>bacon
>link sausage, country sausage or fried pork chops
>pork and beans (Showboat or Van Camp's, usually)
>tater tots
>fried eggs (over easy)
>grits or oatmeal

Sometimes in place of the link sausage/country sausage/pork chops and tater tots, I'll do sausage gravy and biscuits. I also like griddle-fried hashbrowns. Not those in OP's picture, but the kind you'd get at a roadside dinner. Shredded potato, essentially.

French toast, or just some plain Texas toast with butter is also good. Not a fan of pancakes or waffles.

I have been traveling a lot for work recently to the UK. For me what makes or breaks a full English breakfast is the tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, and the back bacon. I have been to a number of hotels throughout my travels and they didn't always have black putting or the sausage or other aspects but the list of ingredients have always been there and really make the full English delicious to me.

Pic related. A full English prepared at some hotel in Clapham. It was delicious

I think that the beans are the key. I need some cold potato salad and a bowl of piping hot beans whenever I eat barbecue, and I don't think breakfast is any different. "Beans, beans, for every meal," as the song goes.

The acidity of the sauce helps break up the flavors, and let's be real, provides much-needed fiber for this meal.

Beans are a popular breakfast pretty much in every corner of the world. I don't think it's a breakfast UNLESS you eat beans. It's more like a brunch or something at that point.

Kind of like how you have to have potatoes or bread at dinner.

I think the key is that it has to be cooked properly.
Even the shittest bacon and sausage can be nice if its cooked well.

Sausages that have chewy skin with no snap like >>6159800 will fuck up the whole meal.
Bacon has to have a good balance of soft and crispy fat, and the meat should not be dry or tough.
Egg, very subjective. I like my yolk a little harder than most.
Black pudding is amazing, considering your are eating a big scab with bits of fat in it. It should be fried so the outside is crispy and chewy. Should stick to your teeth.

Beans, mushrooms, toast, fried bead, hash browns I couldn't give a fuck about Take 'em or leave 'em
Tomatoes are a fucking disaster, why they are considered a part of this dish I will never know.

And a pint of Guinness or a cup of tea (depending on how drunk you are).

The biggest problem most of you seem to have is that you seem to be expecting this to be fine cuisine. The true English breakfast is made simply by leaving all the shit in a pan until it's essentially burnt. Bacon, sausage, mushrooms and eggs are the base. Meat and shrooms first, eggs separate. Fried potatoes/hash browns are the next most important addition to the plate.

The meal is supposed to be a greasy, crunchy thing that fills you completely. Stop trying to make it taste good and you'll enjoy it so much more.
