Hey /ck/,

I'm pretty new to cooking, but I enjoy it a lot. I wanted to cook something different for my family this weekend, and for dessert I want to make a key lime pie with a twist. Instead of using lime juice in this pie, I want to use Mountain Dew. Does anyone know if this will work? Should I use straight Dew or make a reduction? Also, general recipe modification thread.

I probably wouldnt reduce it. Is there a mt dew syrup you can buy?

As a matter of fact, there is.

Not that I know of. I'm also kind of worried the carbonation will mess up the dairy. Why would you suggest syrup?

Would need it by tomorrow. Also I live in Australia, those sorts of things are hard to come by unfortunately.

That sucks. I'll bet you could find the recipe on the googs.

For syrup? Couldn't you just reduce mountain dew?

Sure, go ahead.

answered you own question champ

But would a reduction have the same effect?

>>6075688
more or less. the reduction would have more water in it, so it wouldn't be as concentrated. I mean, by the time you reduced it down to *just* the syrup they use in the fountains, I would expect it to have burned.

Fair enough, apart from the technical aspects, do you think it would work? Like would it taste nice?

you'd be much better off subbing the lime juice with quarter lemon, quarter orange and half lime

that'll get you pretty close to Mtn Dew's flavor. And you won't have to tell anybody that it's a Mtn Dew flavor pie.

But where's the adventure in that?

Your family won't think you're a fucking weirdo for feeding them Mountain Dew dessert pie.

What the hell, man. What the actual fuck.

I know this is 4chan but come on, man. There's no possible way your family could've done anything terrible enough to be worthy of this.

They raised you, they loved you, they fed and clothed you and comforted you when things went wrong, and you repay them with mountain dew pie.

Have you seen a psychologist yet? My heart goes out to you, man.

Mountain Dew isn't _nearly_ sour enough. You'd be better off using a reduction as part of the sugar syrup in a sugar cream or pecan pie.

Agreed with this. Something like Squirt would probably work better, but still too sweet.

There's a difference between experimenting, and doing something that's downright cheap, tasteless and offensive.

Why the hell would you leave the zest in the cream? Fucking disgusting texture.

OP here, today I made and ate the Mountain Dew pie. I reduced the mountain dew to a syrup, and mixed with equal parts homemade mtn dew recipe i found online (lemon, orange, lime 40-40-20 respectively). I also added a drop of green food colouring to the mixture because it was a very pale yellow. The recipe i used was a different key lime pie than i expected, with more of a fluffy, almost cheesecake-y texture to the filling as opposed to the curd I'm used to. The flavour was closer to a lemon-lime flavour, which could be explained by the dry orange I used (hard to get good ones here). It was actually really enjoyable and everyone at least pretended to like it. As for the guy who says that my family don't deserve it and the one who said my family would think I'm a weirdo, I generally cook pretty odd foods so I think they'd be used to it. And if anyone is interested in making it themselves I would be happy to write up a quick recipe (probably will anyway for personal archives). Also if there is any interest I can post pics as there's a little bit left over.

Mountain dew is actually basically yellow, the bottle is just green because they used to use green glass so it's their brand identity.

Yeah, was still after a colour that people associated with mountain dew you know?
