Where do you get your Christmas tamales /ck/?

>> No.6064215

there's usually some mexican boy selling them in the wal-mart parking lot.

This fantastic restaurant called Ranchitos. They have great taquitos and godly, GODLY chicken and cheese quesadillas as well, but the dips/sauces of cilantro and sour cream and fresh salsa/etc really make it.

I can only get there by bike though and it takes like 20 minutes. No delivery ;_;

Boy do I know that.

This taco place opened up down the street in what was formerly a well known local BBQ chain. Apparently it was from Atlanta and people lined up, but here it was different.
I went there ONCE and swore to never go back. It was spartan decor wise with a bunch of four legged tables with old tin signs stretched across them, no paint, and bright lights. The food was about as creative. I remember getting some chicken tacos and they were fried chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and some sort of sauce. Maybe some sort of spicy mayo or some shit.
Not to mention everything was ordered à la carte so you were looking to spend a decent sum if you aren't careful.
After that I decided to go to a local Mexican restaurant which is actually owned by Mexicans instead of white Southerners.

The place closed down in about two months. Maybe because of the food and atmosphere, maybe because Tijuana Flats was right next door.

>chopped greens that have been sitting out for hours
>'handmade spicy southwestern remoulade coulis aioli'
>its hellmans mayo with some cayenne
>single taco, store bought, would last through a nuclear holocaust
>$5+

If they market themselves right, unlike the place your talking about, restaurants like this can make a killing.

Being white in a Mexican town has its advantages
Everyone in my family is reasonably talented at baking, so each of us bakes 2-3 items per year
I go WWII-themed and make Rugelach (Jewish) and Stollen (German), all said we make about 25 trays of Christmas treats

Now normally, I hate the motherfuckers who make these, but ours get some pretty good reviews. To the point, all the mexicans we deliver to trade us in goods

Bunuelos, pan dulce, biscochitos and probably damned near 200 tamales and god-tier menudo from the first family we deliver to.
God bless Mexicans around Christmas; too poor for presents, but plenty of kick-ass food
