Since most fake meat is made from vegetable and grain extracts, doesn't that mean it's basically just an extra helping of carbs for vegans, and a worse source of protein than just straight beans?

>> No.5980648

it's usually made with vegetable protein, or wheat protein. it's pretty unhealthy though, just processed junk marketed as healthy because it's vegan. it also doesn't taste very good.

i wonder how many animals are killed by having to set up factories to make these foods, and the packaging, etc.

>carnist logic

Tofu, seitan, and tempeh aren't really "fake meat" until you treat them as such.

Also, straight beans are a good source of protein, don't give me that "complete protein" crap, no one eats only beans.

Stop giving meat eating people a bad name.

depends on the use. I pretty much only use TVP for sloppy joes. Meat alternatives generally suck so I just stick to vegetable centric cuisine. If I don't think I got enough brotein in a day I just eat a mess of peas sauteed with some thyme and black pepper. I hope the rest of veg crowd does not catch on or the price of peas will skyrocket.

lol i tried to find more non meat protein so i wouldnt have to eat multiples animals per day... only found peas, lentils, and beans... broccoli is ok as well but not really ideal... So im pretty sure all vegans/vegetarians already know about these very limited sources of protein..

I have not seen peas as a staple in many vegan or vegetarian diets. But if you're eating mostly vegetables, nuts, whole grains ect it's kinda hard not to get 40+ grams of protein a day. Having to eat things specifically for protein content (consistently) probably means you need to rework some of your staple foods. Hell some natty peanut butter on a single slice of whole grain toast is enough to put me over 50 grams on most days. I just fucking love peas.

it's not that serious. I've came to terms with what this place was a long time ago and stayed because I like it.

I mean i just compared readily available produce by protein content... and i need at least 165 grams per day which i can only get by eating meat along with vegetables unless i want to chug protein shakes all day or eat beans lentils and peas all day while sitting on a toiled...i am not a weight lifter at all i exercise for about 20 minutes 3-4 times a week with moderate amounts of weight....i would actually start wasting away if i got less than l 85 grams a day...

What's this calculation based from? The number sounds highly inflated.

>> No.5980771

they make pea protein powder now. Not saying supplements are the way to go but if you're doing something so unnatural with your body that you require 85+ grams of protein a day why bother trying to stick to convention? Even when I was running marathons I'd rarely feel the need for more than 60 grams. Cells can only divide so fast. Have you considered upping your L-lysine and arginine, and not focusing on so many grams.

I read a lot on the subject and the average recommended intake amount was about .75 grams per pound based on multiple white papers and university athletic programs.. I just use .8 ... i weigh about 205 lbs... so its about 165... i usually get between 120-160 grams per day..I have no interest in becoming a vegetarian but i definitely want to reduce my consumption of meat.
