so I got an email that linked me to this article.

What are your thoughts on this? Are eggs good or bad for you? Is this just more egg industry propaganda?

if you eat bad rotten old eggs you might get salmonella
if you eat 10 eggs per day you get too much of that bad cholesterole stuff
if you eat eggs from a laying battery you are an evil person

absolutely nothing wrong with eating eggs though apart from that

I treat eggs just how I treat meat. It's good for you if it comes from happy, well fed, healthy, animals.

That also means 90% of eggs are garbage tier and I refuse to eat them, just like meat.

I only eat animal products I get from local farmers/butchers I trust and know treat their animals well. That means no-GMO, vegetarian feed. Pasture raised (lots of sunlight and exercise). Healthy animals.

Most farmed chickens are vegetarian. Real chickens eat lots of insects. The difference affects the food they produce.

even if you are right you are still pulling hyperbolic shit out of your ass. I grew up in Kentucky and had a fuckload of chickens growing up. They just wandered around eating crickets and shit and yeah, the eggs they made were tasty.
But now I'm living in Boston with three roomates and I clearly dont have room for chickens. I had store bought eggs only the first time in my life a couple years ago and they were fucking fine. True, not as good as homegrown maybe, but far from this black and white difference you're making it out to be. That other anon put it very well.

That article isn't very indepth, but yeah, it's an Egg Apologist article. "Eggs have a broad spectrum of nutrients" is a weasely thing to claim because every food has a broad spectrum of nutrients; that's what food is. It doesn't have a particularly large amount of anything though.

As for HDL canceling out the LDL increase, that's what people on the egg industry's payroll claim to make you think that the eggs raising your cholesterol isn't a big deal

The problem is the eggs and meat have inherent qualities that are there regardless of whether the animal they came from was happy

It can be a hard subject to find agreement on because on one hand you have a powerful industry pushing its products as well as people who enjoy eggs and want to believe they're healthy, and traditionalists who think anything natural is good by default, and on the other hand you have doctors and scientists trying to warn people about the dangers of saturated fat and cholesterol. One side is much louder than the other, and the doctor side has the disadvantage of telling people things they may not want to hear, so people are more likely to ignore them.

This is why diet books like Atkins Diet Revolution can sell millions of copies even though practically every doctor in the world rejects its claims. There's a lot of money to be made in making false claims about foods that people enjoy. Eventually you're going to see websites touting the benefits of "all-natural, grass-fed ice cream"

>> No.5895356

Yeah, good qualities. I don't understand how anyone could believe eggs are anything but a powerful punch of dense nutrition. I mean think about what an egg actually is.

2g of saturated fat per egg and between 175-275mg of cholesterol. There's no "recommended intake" of saturated fat, there's only a "please don't eat more than this" limit, which still isn't necessarily ideal for health, but rather a compromise that takes into account what the general public is likely to adhere to

I disagree. Also look up "phytochemicals." Keeping the same egg vs bread comparison, here's an article about the anti-oxidant, anti-cancer compounds found in various grains

http://omicsonline.org/whole-grain-cereal-bioactive-compounds-and-their-health-benefits-a-review-2157-7110.1000146.pdf

That wheat bread comes with potent anti-oxidants like ferulic acid and phytic acid and can decrease your risk of several cancers, while the eggs do the opposite.

A bowl of oatmeal is an even better breakfast, and the anti-inflammatory avenanthramides found in oats are known to decrease oxidation of LDL cholesterol and protect your arteries from plaque build-up, whereas eggs do the opposite of that as well

Congratulations, you and your hippie bullshit are holding back a second green revolution. You've automatically been placed on the list of people who get eaten first when rapidly growing population outstrips our ability to grow crops.
By the way, "organic" food is much, much worse for the environment. It uses more pesticides, because organic pesticides are less efficient than synthetic. Its also roughly 50% less efficient than conventional farming, so is terrible in terms of land use. Widescale organic farming would wreck the earths biodiversity.
Seriously, go read a book. GMO's are a much better solution, even if we get our shit together and give vertical farming a serious shot.
