anyone know if Squee is doing the cooking challenge anymore? I haven't seen it up in awhile. if she is no longer interested in playing host I'll take the torch and host it. Just let me know so I can make a few minor adjustments and get it going.

>> No.5843268

Im also willing to send winrar a small prize, if Pye also sends a prize again this time hopefully we'll get some better participation

wow my memory is shot. I know we had one a few months ago that I *think* BubbleBurst ran? I also think Pyewacket won. I really am not sure though

that was the big yearly challenge. for a few months after that we were having a more casual toned down monthly challenge that sort of just fizzled out. I wanna get it going again since summer is gone, maybe there will be less shitposting and more content.

No, but that would be neat. Totally forgot about the toned down one. I wouldn't mind seeing this start up again but it seems like /ck/ might not be as into it anymore? if that makes any sense

Hey! I'm still here. I figured Squee gave up. I'd run it myself if I had time, but I really don't. BUT, I'll still be willing to give out prizes. I just want to see more participation, though. It kind of sucks when there's only 4 entries, ya know? But, I'm on board.

word, I'll work out a slightly tuned format this evening, I have more time than I know what to do with. I'm liking Squees three category format where you judge presentation, appeal, and challenge goals. I however was not a fan of the 1-3 rating system, I gave out too many 3's or 1's to people who didn't really deserve it.

my idea is to have a 0-4 rating system, I think giving out a 0 should be allowed where it is deserved. I've also got what I think a nice open theme is this round.

another idea I'm having is that instead of giving the title of winner to whoever has the most total points I may average the scores and give it to the one with the highest average? I'd like your thoughts on that. I think in the past some contestants were hesitant to vote for each other because everyone else was getting extra points except the contestant voting. if every participant voted for everyone except themselves it wouldn't be a problem but not everyone always voted. also the really early entries got more votes than the later ones. would like your thoughts or any input from anyone.

You got Boomhauer, I've got to be Hank though lol

>> No.5843502

one other thing, I think I wanna have it officially start at midnight tonight instead of waiting first monday

>> No.5843509

>>5843490
Averaging the points isn't a bad idea. Maybe you could try that for a couple rounds and see if it works out. And, I do think the 0-4 rating system might work better. My biggest peeve is the themes, really. The themes have to be approachable enough to make people want to participate, but also interesting and not quite as broad as some of the past themes. I am certainly not knocking Squee's efforts, they were valiant, but the rounds were awfully broad and open to too much interpretation. I hope that makes sense.

>>5843502
Go for it!

>>5843509
I hope my theme is good. I can give you a short hint since its starting soon anyway and I don't wanna fuck it up. cooking Hank style, vegetarian options allowed.

any good?

>> No.5843549

another idea I'm having for my themes is doing them by cooking style instead of doing a certain food type. For instance there would be a slow cooker round, a fried foods round, a stir fry round, a soup and stew round, etc.

Why is Hank anywhere near that charcoal garbage?

>> No.5843638

>>5843537
Ah ha! Yeah, I think that would be a fine theme. Let's see what people come up with!

>> No.5843649

>>5843549
Yeah, that's what I like. For instance, in the first /ck/ challenge that I entered (which was the second annual) we had a tapas round, a time travel round (where you had to roll for a time period), a ravioli round, etc. which helped narrow down what people could make, but still kept it open for interpretation. Sounds like you've got a good start there.

>> No.5843677

>>5843386
Yeah, I ran the big yearly annual one. Will likely do it again, but that is at the end of winter/early spring.

The monthly one is more casual and easier for people who are afraid or can't commit to the long form if the yearly challenge. Plus, more OC is always good.

Ugh, know that feeling. I'm not as far north as you, but the light difference is already going strong. Not looking forward to the days where it gets dark at 4:30. What time does the sun set there in Nov/Dec?

>> No.5843719

November ranges from 17h41 to 16h12... December sticks at 16h10 until the solstice. Sunrise at around 7h15' 7h30?

>> No.5843795

>>5843677
ayyyy good to see you still around.

about to type up the rules, any last minute suggestions are welcome. it will be a one week long contest and entries will be scored on a scale of 1-4 for appeal, presentation, and challenge goals. some sort of name or identifier is required. instead of adding up the total scores I will try something new and average them. themes will be left very open for interpretation, they are to be based on cooking styles/certain cooking appliances being used.

if it wasn't obvious I'm that drunkard that likes to cook everything with alcohol as an ingredient :^)

Averaging is roughly how i do the annual. Drop me an email if you want detail/help with spreadsheets ;-)

I'll be sitting out the grilling one, but I hope you get lots of entries :-)

not sure if I'll be making spreadsheets, I'm old fashioned and do all my math with pencil and paper still. I'd consider it though if you want to send me your template.

how again do you send and email address on here that is done in a way that the whole world can't see it? not that I'm not getting shitty spam all the time anyway but sometimes some of you worry me.

It might be helpful, as far as picking a prize, if I knew what your themes were going to be ahead of time, so I can try to pick something that suits the challenge. Obviously, any entries that I were to submit would be ineligible to win anyway, so it really wouldn't matter if I knew what they were. If not, that's okay, it just might take me a little longer to get a prize sent out .

Not everyone has access to all cooking appliances. So please keep that in mind if you do cooking styles like slow cooking

>> No.5846199

>>5846193

What makes you think you need a special appliance to slow cook? You can just use a pot on the stove or in the oven set very low.

Also, this might blow your mind: you don't need a toaster to make toast. Crazy, I know. But the broiler in your oven works fine. So does the range top.

itspyewacket@gmail.com

Yeah, I think I know what your first round is, :) But yeah, that would be very helpful to know, so I can try and pick appropriate prizes to at least try and match the themes. And to have a head start, it takes awhile to sift through stuff and find the prizes too. But this will be fun, and we always need more OC. I hope a lot of people enter this time.

Please remember not to be hemispherist in your challenge goal selection. It is now Spring in the southern hemisphere, and issuing a "challenge" for Autumn recipes (squash, pumpkins, etc.) is simply in bad taste.

After all, you wouldn't demand a bacon-based challenge lest you offend Jews and Muslims, or a beef-based challenge lest you offend Hindus, or a cephalopod-based challenge lest you offend Cthulhu and end up being eaten last, or a meat-based challenge lest you offend all the butthurt vegan faggots out there.

Or would you?

>> No.5847698

Sorry for the restrictions, ill probably just end up making an air quality round. I cant think of a better thing for us to argue over. And since everyone usually breathes we can get in on this
