hey bros, i don't usually come on ck because my foodie talents are equivalent to those of a shoelace. But i need some advice. I have to figure out how to live off of about $200 for food a month do you guys know of any easy / cheap / healthy meals or whatever that would help a brotha out? I have a price chopper within walking distance of my place but thats pretty much the only source of food i've got here.

Rice and beans.

Other then that, plan, plan plan. check what's on sale. Plan to re-use ingredients. Don't buy anything that might go to waste.

This picture bothers me. It could get the point across without being intentionally misleading.

Fucking hell, even if those prices are correct, that's an all-day project and a whole bottle of dish soap (and if you pay for water more money) cleaning up.

If you can cook your 13 USD gets you in excess of 20 tiny dishes my fucking ass. I'd rather spend the 10 hours it takes to prepare and cleanup all that shit on a job, 10 hours pay is one fuck of a lot more than 13 bucks on minimum wage, hell it's enough to buy fast food severalfold.

And let's bring up that not even ethnic grocers sell in such small quantities. Congratulations, now you're wasting more time you could be spending working and earning decent pay on inventorying your own refrigerator.

I did soups for a while. couple pounds of ground meats 10$ couple tomatoes and onions 6$ rice and beans 10$ water is free but broth tastes better. celery and carrots broccoli or whatever else you want to throw in. 5-20$ put half in the freezer eat half for a week take other half out of the freezer eat and repeat from step one. can always tweak and make different soups.. (chilli, or chicken noodle, split pea) is pretty cheap and nutrient rich for the health.. bake own bread to go with too

It's intentionally misleading in that you'd have to buy a whole chicken, but you'd only use that much of it for the meal pictured.
So if you didn't have any of that you'd have to buy upwards of $50 worth of food, minimum.

not op but my apartment only came with a hot plate and there's no counter space, it probably would take me around that long to prep, prepare, and clean up that much food. Maybe longer

op google "weekly meal plan with grocery list for x amount of money"
you can find a few of these.
the worst part is getting your spices and condiments. plan to get one or two every week in enough bulk to last you.
those will be what makes your food taste good.
buy bulk rice and beans as soon as you can. it will make things tough at first but it helps in the long run.
fresh in season produce will make things bearable and wont break a budget.
plan plan plan.
