>Overhyped shit

Tried Voodoo donuts for the first time today (pic related) in Denver, and I'm so disappointed. Mediocre donut with sloppy toppings slapped onto it. $8.00 for some left over donuts that I shared with roommates and neighbors, even then it's a lot.

Fuck Voodoo donuts, Portland/Denver.

>> No.5703798

Voodoo Donuts really expanded out of state?

I left pdx just after they opened their second location (and started offering voodoo weddings).

The original was/is a tiny hole in the wall place downtown, that wasn't overpriced or over-hyped just 10 years ago.

It was basically just a regular doughnut shop that had a decent recipe and tried all sorts of random shit (tang, kool-aid, cereal, etc.) for toppings. I used to get the voodoo dozen (basically whoever's working picks out 14 random doughnuts that may or may not be a little old, depending on who you know).

I don't know. It's one of the few places I went to before it was in every food magazine and on national TV, so I kinda have a hard time hating it, simply because I had it before most people had heard of it.

Then again, pretty much all doughnuts make me feel like shit these days.

Voodoo donuts are truly awful. I miss the way donuts used to be when there was a real old-style donut shop off every freeway exit, you could smoke in them, and there were 2 kinds of coffee: black sludge and decaf. The donuts just tasted better. They were more "meaty," subtle and measured in their sweetness. Not the airy, empty, crusted sugar shells they are today.

While we're talking about shitty overhyped OR-based institutions, let's throw in Rogue brewery. They have maybe 2 beers that aren't complete disappointments. I don't miss the "good old days" of beer in America, but fuck these guys.

>>5703842
Almost impossible to take your generalized sushi opinion seriously because the quality of sushi depends directly on the quality and freshness of the seafood. It's kind of like saying that "apples" are too flavorless. Which fucking apples? Where did you get them?

Also why specifically 5 guys? You should hate every burger place there ever was. And at least 90% of all restaurants. After all, you can make that shit at home.

The only chili beer I've ever tried was this collaboration between Cigar City (local to me) and New Belgium, which, I have to say, was one of the best beers I've tried in recent memory.
