It's obviously not top shelf but for the price it's pretty good.

Nobody uses Jim Beam in a roofiecolada. That's all vodka and rum. Who taught you how to date rape?

>> No.5699435

you could have done much worse. Jim is OK but overpriced for what you get. Old Crow, Old Granddad, and Old Overholt are all cheaper and better. since you're new you probably won't want to be drinking it straight. protip: RC cola is inexplicably the superior cola mixer. even if you prefer coke and pepsi straight RC compliments the flavour of bourbon, IMO.

party on then. I don't mix with soda anymore either unless its a cold sparkling water. straight, on ice, or mixed with water does me fine. I think adding a splash of water or drinking over ice really opens up the flavour because it mellows the alcohol burn.

>> No.5699461

Don't worry about other people's ideas of what is 'good' alcohol too much. You're just starting out. Just keep an open mind and try things, and please watch out for the pitfall of thinking a bottom shelf anything is indicative of the entire category. Good scotch took some time to appreciate. You wouldn't want a person who has never driven a car before to start out with an Italian sportscar, likewise you shouldn't worry about jumping right into what's 'best'.

not saying it is expensive or bad, I get it sometimes. but I can get a 1.75 handle of Old Crow for $21 and I feel like its a better product. taste is subjective though lots of people like Jim better. whatever you do avoid Kentucky Gentleman or any blended whiskey.

Thanks to insanely varied laws by state and even by county, on top of cost of living differences, alcohol prices can be wildly different in the US depending on location.

I was surprised to find out Missouri, where I live, has some of the most relaxed distribution laws in the US, even though the industry was ruined during Prohibition. Fortunately Busch made sure those state laws were favorable to their business.

also Jim should have been cheaper than Jack, where are YOU shopping? in that price/quality range you'll want to look for Old Crow, Evan Williams, Old Granddad, Old Overholt, Ancient Age, Old Forrester, Jim Beam, and Benchmark.

Avoid anything cheaper, they are blended whiskeys and will make you feel like shit. when you are ready for something nicer I'd recommend Makers Mark or Buffalo Trace for the next step up.

Well, people usually don't like to get drunk. Usually, you drink to loosen up. 3-4 drinks will do that, unless you're fat or tall. It's also important to remember that alcohol is more of an accompaniment to a great evening, rather than the driving force behind it. If you drink and expect to suddenly become the life of the party, you're going to have a bad time. On the other hand, if you want to put yourself out there and force yourself to become the life of the party, then alcohol can definitely help with that.

>Does alcoholism run in your family

>Did you tell yourself to stay sober, and didn't get into it
Nah, was trying to get drunk since I had never been before.

From what friends had told me, the fact I had had a lot to eat before drinking, a fair amount could have been absorbed by the food. I also threw up near the end of the night, though not really because I was drunk, more because I had a shit ton in my stomach and it was basically at the tipping point, which is probably a reason why I wasn't hung over the next day.
