Why is so much of the stuff TJ's sells spurious?
The full-fat strained yogurt looks to just be regular yogurt with thickeners. Cottage cheese is laced with thickeners, too. From what I've read, they sell fake Burratta too, though anyone who knows anything ought to know that a stock of Burratta is very difficult to maintain.
I'm sure I could think of other examples.

Trader Joe's has publicly stated that as a company, they're trying to be socially and morally responsible when it comes to their food selections. As a NYC resident, this makes me happy since Whole Foods is kind of the devil when it comes to not-quite-false marketing on that front, but why do they still sell quinoa if the Bolivian farmers who harvest it are being exploited and can't even afford to buy their own crops any more?

Sure, a lot of stuff at Whole Foods is a bit better, but like you said, you're restricted to buying what's on sale because of the outrageous prices. Since TJ's mostly stocks their own brand, nearly everything is pretty reasonably priced (hence why they don't have sales).
