Look at this fucking blender I picked up at Goodwill. I almost feel like crying. This is the blender of my youth. We would make simple milkshakes with this: vanilla ice cream, milk, and canned or fresh fruit. It's still the only legitimate use I know of for that sweet syrup that canned fruit swims in. I remember everything about this damn blender and I don't know why it didn't even cross my mind when I picked up the other one. The colors, the wordmarks, the order of the speeds (I didn't know what "Frappé" meant and I always forgot to look it up), the sound of the motor.

And independent of all that, I think it's a gorgeous appliance. Just look at it!

This pitcher is glass and quite heavy, and holding it meant that my mom was letting me pour and I would momentarily be consuming a delicious milkshake.

All I have to do to travel through time is hold it and feel its heft.

Glad to oblige.. I figure it was a common enough model back in its day but probably not that easy to find now other than eBay.

Oh and I should clarify by "the other one" I meant an old late 60s Waring blender I got at a different thrift store a few weeks back. It bit the dust after a while and I'm glad it did because then I had an excuse to buy this one.

Sure it does. You just choose to buy crap instead of quality. Want a blender? You can buy everything from $9 at Wal-Mart thru a $600 vitamix. Choose wisely. If you buy the cheap shitty wal-mart one don't be surprised when it fails the first time you try and make a margarita.

It didn't. I remember using it as a kid to make milkshakes, which is why I said it had Nostalgic value. But it wasn't particularly durable; I remember we only had it for a few years, and even then it wasn't used much.

I wouldn't say it's greed so much, but the ever-increasing demand for cheaper cheaper cheaper. When customers choose the cheaper appliance rather than the better appliance it's a big surprise which ones the stores will chose to keep on the shelf. Like >>5642629 said there are plenty of good quality blenders on the market. Something like a blendtec or vitamix will stomp all over that 70/80's Oster.
