I don't live in Arizona, but I travel through there on a regular basis, and I've had some very nice food there. Good stuff in Tempe, Phoenix, Flagstaff, Sedona, and Lake Havasu.

OP here, more info about me. I live in Chicago now and the only thing special here is the hot dogs and sometimes pizza, will it be better or worse than Chicago?

Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, OP.

This is a michelin-starred town. Yes, I'm posting from Chicago, yes, it's 3:35 AM. Just go for a walk through Lincoln Park and you'll find a million fucking great restaurants.

Tarbell, the dude who trounced Cora on Iron Chef - not that that is his shining achievement, but if anyone outside AZ knows of him, that's probably why - has had his place here for quite a while. Took him a long time to build up any sort of name. Places exist all over, but if they aren't the trendy spot to go to be seen dumping huge wads of dosh, they don't get a lot of attention and focus on cult followings. They're ubiquitous, but you have to look around.

Most of the little Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Viet restaurants Ive been to have been great and they're all over every city.

For fast food we have Canes Chickenfingers open til 2.30 at night on thur-sat, Culvers, greasy mexican food 24hrs, and an In-N-Out every 5 miles in the Mesa, Gilbert, Tempe area. Supposedly we have some amazing food trucks but ive never been to one.

Well for example I go to pic related in Mesa which is a suburb of Phoenix. It has bars on the drive-thru window and is in a neighborhood where the building signage is primarily in Spanish. The people who work their though are super nice and make awesome food for super cheap. I guess what I'm saying is just look in areas where the Mexicans like to eat and you'll find good food at good prices.

Whatever you do, do not ever eat at a Filiberto's. If anyone tells you to eat there, they are not your friend and you are within your rights to kill that person.

Imagine eating a spoogy tube of bland mush with the occasional pocket of terrible flavor, and you have a Filiberto's burrito.

Aside from that, your best bet is really going to be small, family owned joints and cooking at home.

There is literally nothing in Phoenix that compares to the food you can get in downtown Chicago. If you have no idea of this then the best I can tell you is to actually go and visit chicago and eat at some of the holes in the wall there as well as some of the high-tier restaurants so you can really get a vibe for what you're missing out on. The quality and taste for that stuff just doesn't compare to the food that we have here. Chicago isn't the only example, I'm not saying it's food city USA but to compare Chicago food or pretty much any large US city (Atlanta, New York, DC, San Fran) to Phoenix food, you've obviously never been.

Chicago Burger Company is like fucking chilies man come on.

The best cooked oysters I've ever had in my life was in a Chinese restaurant in Phoenix. I'm from British Colombia, and I thought I knew my shit. I forget the name, but there can't be that many traditional Chinese seafood places in Phoenix.

Four peaks has a few really good beers, and the food is decent, but it's still bar food, trying to be hip and offer some healthier options. Nothing to write home about. Cornish pasty is the same. Good for what it is, but nothing to write home about. I would be happy to have one of either closer to me, and would visit more often, but to call them amazing is silly. Talk about overrating.
