because it's specifically baby food, we're not babies, and especially not cow babies
humans did not become lactose tolerant, people who consume dairy products frequently when they are supposed to be outgrowing them will continue to produce the enzymes needed to break it down; the actual norm is to be lactose intolerant as an adult. that's why so many people THINK that they're lactose intolerant, because they are, and it's not what they thought it was, and they keep on keepin on, forcing lactose on their system bc it's not completely self destructing, so "I must not actually be lack toast and tolerant right? hurr durr"

But that's wrong. Lactase activity in humans is mediated in the MCM6 gene, in which East Africans and Northern Europeans have developed adaptations that allow for continued consumption of milk. The Maasai people traditionally lived on raw cow's blood and milk exclusively, for example.

You do realize that adaptations are what drives evolution, right? That adaptations are how we ended up with large brains, with blue eyes in some populations, with some populations having higher red blood cell-counts to live in higher elevations?

>you're supposed to grow out of them, like your baby teeth

If that was true, human populations wouldn't have developed an ability to produce lactase in adulthood, because adaptations are necessarily advantageous in order to succeed.

That only happens if they don't wear them down from regular activity. Their ability to grow quickly while in regular use is an adaptation.

sickle-cell anemia also has negative effects, but is a positive adaptation to malaria and thus is marginally advantageous in certain populations.

>peacock tails

What is "attracting a mate", Alex?

>bees dying when they use their only method of defense

Most bees and wasps do not die when they sting you, that's only really true of the worker honey bee which isn't found on all continents. Moreover, this only happens when they sting thick-skinned mammals, they can sting other things (e.g., invading insects) just fine without dying.

>and i'm sure it's super fun for moths to run into fires, because they evolved to take directions from the moon and stars!

The difference being that the adaptation for dairy consumption *is precisely* for dairy consumption. It's a genetic difference that allows for lactase maintenance after adulthood, which is *only* useful for dairy products. It's not as if the ability to eat dairy is a secondary side effect to a different adaptation.

You're right about that! That point was less about lactose tolerance and more about your childish and simplistic view that genes can somehow decide what is necessary, and that what is bred for is what is always what is advantageous, rather than it being a completely willy-nilly system where some advantageous traits are propagated by chance, but most traits are neutral, a hindrance, or even just completely useless

>The Weston A. Price Foundation is a major advocate for the consumption of unpasteurized milk, or raw milk, in the United States. One of its main goals is to remove health regulations that require the pasteurization of milk products so that raw milk can be legally purchased in all states. Supporters of this campaign believe the pasteurization process removes or destroys beneficial parts of raw milk, leading to a less healthy product that is associated with numerous diseases such as allergies, cancer, and heart disease.[13]
>The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Food and Drug Administration disagree with this assessment, noting that the pasteurization process "does not significantly change the nutritional value of milk" and that consumption of raw milk poses a "severe health risk". They also point out that prior to the widespread use of pasteurization, many diseases were commonly transmitted by raw milk, while they made up less than 1% of food and water contamination disease outbreaks by 2005[14][15] The director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration division of plant- and dairy-food safety, John Sheehan, called the organization's claims on the health benefits and safety of raw milk "false, devoid of scientific support, and misleading to consumers"[2]
