You could buy whole peanuts and blend them in a food processor. You could buy 15-5 lb bags of flour for the $98 you spent on bread. Juice one lemon into a glass, add 2 tsp sugar, 8 oz water, stir until dissolved, and add ice. With the 15 bags of flour you bought, you can make your own pasta.

Depends on what it is. A lot of canned veggies are indeed fine--and are often better than fresh.

On the other hand, many canned foods are loaded with salt or otherwise suck.

For example, I wouldn't hesitate to buy canned san marzano tomatoes or canned sweet corn (so long as it's no salt added). On the other hand, canned green beans are overcooked to hell and back which gives them a foul texture, nasty dark green color and sulfurous odor. Most canned soups or stock are a salt bomb (and I'm just talking about the taste, let alone potential health concerns).

So what is ck's average monthly grocery list like?

My weekly runs are typically fresh stuff like whole milk, lettuce, bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots and fruits with the occasional sauces and spices for dishes I may want to make later.

Then I have a monthly run to a nearby Costco where I buy all my meat in bulk and freeze it, I usually also buy a bag of potatoes and onions and a few other items.

Anyway I spend anywhere from $150-600 a month not including alcohol, depending on what my fetish is that month. Lately my fetish has been brown rice and lentils so I'm leaning towards the lower end of that. I've been doing it for about six months now though and I'm going to probably ricochet back to eating a fuck ton of meat soon so it's going to swing back to $600 territory soon since I hate shit quailty meat. our food out here in spider kingdom is pretty expensive but i'll give you a run down of what i get for food for two people

first things first, plan your meals out. if you plan to make leftovers for days, you will not only make your bill cheaper, but have homemade food for lunch at work as well. I like to use a site like budgetbytes to get a general recipe/ingredients list (though I change most of them due to price/availability as that is a US based site.) It generates a grocery list for me and I just alter it by how much of one recipe I want to make.

Anyway, onto a list for two weeks.

5-7 kinds of meat. This usually involves, a whole chicken, 1 kg beef mince, 25pack of sausages, ham for sandwiches, and the meats used for recipes (varies, but generally chicken, pork chops, etc.)

Bacon
block of cheese (no shredded BS)
peanut butter
steel cut oats
power grain (aldi knock off version of nutri grain cereal)
2-4 cans of tuna
assorted noodle variations
toilet paper
paper towels
baby wipes (for gay sex cleanup)
dishwasher tablets if i'm out (generally once a month)
7-9 carrots
large package of green beans
two large packs of mushrooms
5-8 tomatoes
4 apples
bananas if they look nice
butter
any on sale meat or stuff that's about to go off and is cheap but good
milk
eggs (12)
potato gems
instant coffee cuz i am 2poor to get a machine yet
tim tams
frozen mixed veggies if they don't have the fresh versions (broccoli is a prime example of this)
bread
crumpets
vegemite

that's sort of the general idea. I always grab an iced coffee at the end while i'm checking out and drink it once i unpack everything. This is a list without any given recipes, just kinda wingin it. I usually hit up the asian store on the weekend when I have time (nothing is open in this country past 6pm for some dumbass reason. Even my podunk town in Oklahoma back home was open 24 hours yet Brisbane isn't.) I'll get gyudon sauce, rice, beans, spices, korean bbq meat, and tofu
