I kinda like when my toast is a little burnt on one side.
like not completely ash black, but just a little black and delicious brown.
Dont know why.

Pretty sure the black stuff are toxic , but I like to toast/bake mine in a little toaster oven with the butter(or cheese) pre applied and I usually end up forgetting it and having it get a bit black on one side, it always gets the perfect mixture of black/golden though.

i like a little burnt when the toast is actually grilled with butter. but dry burnt toast in the toaster just pisses me off.
