If you're only drinking it because you saw whoever the fuck that is drink it in whatever the fuck jappaniggershit show she's from, you're better off sticking it your fucking green tea infused shochu shots you fruity bastard.

If not, try Clear Creek. It's only 20 bucks and I guarantee you won't gag on it.

What this guy said. Don't go spending a ton of money before you even know you like the general flavor of some type of booze. Just get a half pint of E&J VSOP (the blue label) or something. Should be around $4.50-$5.00 max. But, I'm in KY and our alcohol tax is still low relative to many states, so, your results may vary.

The caveat is that for some people lower quality may override the factor of flavor and you may be turned off of something you have enjoyed at a higher level of quality.

Also, brandy is not something to be consumed en masse. It is the WORST for hangovers. It's definitely not something for parties.

Get Calvados and pour it over apple ice cream. Easy mode for seeing what brandy tastes like. Then you can have a snifter of it on its own. Then transition into unflavored brandies.

Try a decent brandy first. I say stay away from E&J because it isn't as aged as other brands (they tend to stick to the min required law set by the us)
Brandy is made from grapes in the same barrels (and sometimes pot kettles) as most American whiskeys.I had a 12 year old Courvoisier I had at home and the taste has hints of vanilla and smoke.

Don't like whiskey?
Stay away from anything aged. So the Martell brand is best. The tend to net set up there Brandy for aging.

Want something sweet?
Go for a peach brandy or other fruit. I sue peach for white sangria.

Wanna try something aged?
Start with VS and VSOP.

I say sip it neat (no ice) to get the flavor of it to start. Then add ice. Unless you are doing a peach brandy (bird dog peach is wonderful ice cold with ginger ale).
I hope this help OP it can be confusing learning about a new drink.

And for the record, OP, you cartoon watching faggot: brandy tastes like shit and makes me gag every time I try to down that putrid shit. I bet the only reason you want to start drinking that shit is to seem somehow more "cultured" than vodka or rum drinkers but the truth is that brandy and cognac contain the same 40% alcohol that vodka and rum do, and the latter two taste much better.

Paul Masson is a good starter. It's inexpensive and it tastes like brandy. If you enjoy that, you can move on to the more "pricey" cognacs like Hennessey, or my personal favorite, Courvoisier.

Stay away from E&J.They flavor their "brandy" with maple, it's fucking terrible.

Brandy? I LOVE brandy!

My two cents:

The better French brandies have long complex finishes, coupled with some bite up front. Cognac is lovely, but not a great value. Armagnac is equally lovely, harder to find, and less well known, so you can sometimes find a good value there. Calvados (Norman apple brandy) is also delicious stuff.

If you don't like the bite of French brandies Cardinal Mendoza from Spain (Sherry brandy) is super smooth, but pricey.(You can totally get lost in a glass of that stuff). Metaxa from Greece and Ararat from Armenia are both on the smooth side as well.

Another fruit brandy worth checking out is Poire William (pear brandy). Good examples are ungodly expensive (pic related), but elder god tier.

This is a good post. Also Mendoza isn't that expensive, but if all you want is "smooth" Romate Reserva is like 1/2 the price. It's nowhere near as complex but it's every bit as smooth and I'd still drink it if someone already poured the glass. Mostly I use it for cooking and cocktails.
