Why did taste buds decide that food that is good for you should taste like ass and food that is terrible for you taste really good.

it was your parents not your taste buds. Stop trying to use "nature" as an excuse for your obesity.

It's all cool, man. Just eat whatever you want. You can always drink a diet soda afterwards. It cancels out the fat making cells in your body. Please enjoy good food and good health.

This is probably a troll thread, but just the foods available to humans and human ancestors was profoundly different than they are now. We've manufactured things that satisfy our base drives and created an economic system that encourages their consumption. We've manipulated our own cravings for financial gain.

Back in the caveman days, food was scarce, and food with protein, fats and carbohydrates tasted good because all those stuff where good to keep the body alive and not starve, and that didn't change in the modern times and food like that is available for cheap and large quantities, and people get fat.

I genuinely disagree. I love eating healthily, my only unhealthy desired taboo is overeating healthy stuff.
I think a lot of it is psychological - the idea of treating yourself or having a special priviledge or something, rather
than the taste being physically better. Perhaps if we were brought to believe chocolate and kraft dinners were the key to health and success then we'd crave raw veges/fruit and meat.
Idk just putting it out there. inb4 /pol/ fedora or whatever.

oats/porridge, apples, potatoes, some breads(health factor debatable) and chicken. Also a whole lot of semi-healthy curries and non chocolate flavored, chocolate iced, chocolate chip baked things.
I don't overeat them, but the hypothetical temptation is there. I loveeee the taste of all.
When I say overeat, I probably still couldn't go much, if at all, over my caloric maintenance on purely these, I just mean I could eat so much that i'd -key word-feel like a total fatass. You're right, aside from the fruit they are filling.

That wouldn't make sense at all, because you're supposed to eat what tastes good.

Your taste buds are fucked up. Stop drinking soda and eating junk processed food.

I eat a lot of butter, ghee, olive oil, cheese, milk, meat, yogurt, eggs, white bread, white rice, peanut butter, desserts, etc. I also eat a lot of vegetables, which also taste good.

But I prepare the majority of what I eat myself. I have, at most, 2-3 meals each week that I didn't prepare myself. I exercise regularly and I'm in pretty decent shape.

the same proteins apparently can't be taken from vegetation, amino acids and other shit that I don't understand well enough to debate over.

That would be a valid point if it was substantiated by something scientific, but it's not. Here's the diet of the most consistently long-living population of people on the planet

39 grams of protein a day. You don't need 100+ grams of protein a day, and when I say "don't need" I don't mean it would be beneficial but not required, I mean it offers no benefit at all, and some sources would say it even harms you, especially animal protein if you subscribe to the idea of methionine restriction as a life extension strategy, or the role of animal protein in osteoperosis. "It's healthy because protein" is not a reasonable stance to take considering how relatively easy protein is to get and how little you require of it

>> No.5238846

consider the taste. consider the nutritional value as a whole. consider the numerous shittier alternatives.
protein is more than muscle repair too, it's one of the best macros for keeping you full and energetic for long periods of the day which I really like.
why would you want to heavily restrict your intake of a good thing anyway? for me, being anti-media bullshit doesn't apply in this case.
Like I said; it works for me.

>> No.5238850

>>5238846

>why would you want to heavily restrict your intake of a good thing anyway?

My point wasn't that you should restrict protein, my point was that "it has protein" doesn't make a healthy food. Like you said, consider the nutritional value as a whole. There's many better foods than chicken you ought to be eating, chicken is practically junk food

>> No.5238867

>>5238850
>chicken is practically junk food
okay, now in my case that's some serious bullshit that I won't even consider. we're talking roast chicken in a balanced, moderate diet here.
maybe it isn't literally the #1 thing for my health. but junk food? fuck off.

>traditional diet during the 1950s
>right after ww2
>surviving on starches
Well, of course. Most countries that were hit by atomic bombs after a long, huge war would have trouble getting food and need lots of staple foods to survive. They wouldn't have the luxury of meat.

>For example, the quantity of pork consumption per person a year in Okinawa in 1979 was 7.9 kg (17 lb) which exceeded about 50% that of the Japanese national average.

>Another characteristic of Okinawan cuisine is its reliance on meat. The main protein sources of Okinawan cuisine are derived from livestock, specifically pigs. Buddhism spread less widely in Okinawa, and the islands were less influenced by the non-meat eating practices of the Tokugawa shogunate. Okinawan has had a culture of using livestock since the Edo era. An Okinawan saying states that Okinawan cuisine "begins with pig and ends with pig" and "every part of a pig can be eaten except its hooves and its oink."

>> No.5239761

>>5238942

It being after WW2 is inconsequential, that's still the diet that has led them to their longevity and put them as the longest-living people in the world

Your quote from the Kikkomon website aside, the Okinawans are known to eat pork primarily on holidays, not as a large part of their daily meal. Compare their pork consumption to the United States for example, their consumption vs the rest of Japan hardly says anything.

>> No.5239990

I swear I'm the only person on /ck/ with a fucking appetite. I could easily, easily eat 5000 calories a day and I eat very healthily (lean meat, veggies, oats, eggs etc).

If I didn't put limits on myself I could eat a kg of oats easily or 2kg of chicken.

Evolution. You get more calories from crap, and in a starvation situation your body wants you to get more calories.

Fat, sugar, salt, and some other stuff I won't bring up are hard to get and your body tries to motivate you to get them.

Because food that's good for you ISN'T food that's good for you. It's just food with a low calorie index because here in Amerifat we have too much food and instead of eating less food people try to game the system by eating large quantities of low calorie food. Food with calories is what your body needs and that's why it craves it. You're not supposed to be living in twinkie paradise, you're supposed to be having to conserve for periods of scarcity like your ancestors had to do.

some macros/foods fill you more effectively than others. i've often wondered why soda/high energy liquids don't give you that full feeling in the slightest.
I highly, highly doubt that guy is capable of eating 1kg of steel cut oats. He probably just meant the idea is appealing when he's hungry. I second this. Oats are godly as fuck, but fortunately they actually do fill you up.

Something in general that I've noticed is that "unhealthy" food is very easily masticated, while "healthy" foods take longer to chew. Maybe that's why people find "unhealthy" foods satisfying: because they can be devoured quickly, and they're easier to mindlessly snack on and eat.
