Hi /ck/, since a lot of you seem to enjoy spicy foods, I was wondering if you could give me any suggestions how to get used to eating them? I want to eat things like spicy curry and such, but I jalapenos are about my limit. Is there anyway to get used to it, or is it just something you have to be born with?

Heat tolerance is entirely about practice, it can come and go over the years depending on how much hot stuff you eat. Buy a very hot pepper extract, like 1,000,000 Scoville range, make your food like normal, but mix in 1 drop of the extract. When you get used to it, mix 2, then 3, etc. Keep doing that, and you'll build up a tolerance quickly.

Keep eating spicy food.

I think your body eventually realizes your flesh isn't really burning. It takes more and more spice to get a burning sensation.

try eating a Bhut Jolokia pepper! they're a little less spicy than jalapeños, and will help you get used to them. the best way is just to take a big bite and chew.
