To those of us who shop there or have shopped there in the past, what does /ck/ think of Publix?

Personally, I think they're great. Good selection, fair prices, and pretty well laid-out (the one nearest me is a smaller one, but there's a few right down the road that are damn huge).

Can't say the same for Winn-Dixie, though. No es bueno.

Publix: well staffed, well stocked, friendly, and helpful. Great produce and a meat department with real butchers.

I have never been in the store when they have not asked me if I need help, if I found everything and if I was having a great day. I love that place.

"Where shopping is a pleasure."

You wish you shopped there.

Or Publix is just that good and the place you shop is a cess pool by comparison.

The manager greets me EVERY time I come in. They give my 2 year old a cookie and a balloon. Every time. The meat is a labeled as raised, processed and a packaged in this country. There are constant cooking demonstrations and food samplings.

Dat bakery with dat five grain Italian bread.

Publix is nicer than others, but overpriced. I only shop sales there or when I have a gift card.

But goddamn, those boar's head turkey subs with smoked gruyere. Fucking amazing.

maybe people generally like publix? the only bad thing i have to say is that they are slightly more expensive, but they have enough sales items so if you stick to them you're fine

>> No.5081482

Publix basically shits on every other chain grocery store hands down. They keep it clean, they have a pretty big selection (and if they don't have what you're looking for they'll order it from another Publix for free), they're fucking EVERYWHERE in Florida, if you don't like something you get your money back and there are workers swarming the place so you never have to look if you need assistance. Oh and the subs are better than every sub chain I've been to. GOAT store, only beaten by specialty markets.

>> No.5081487

Expensive slave-drivers who mercilessly crush their employees and tell them to smile, they get coupon deals.

Publix is only good for extreme couponers, every other supermarket is cheaper, with some leaps and bounds cheaper.

I've heard it's a good place to work for, though I don't think they get employee discounts if I remember correctly.

When I worked in Miami, PUBLIX was the only grocery store that, no matter the location, had armed guards and the doors and wandering through the stores.

No english speaking store personnel anywhere.

Never been to a PUBLIX outsite of Miami, FL.

But I was never so glad to come back home and visit my local Kroger, which is now a Kroger Fresh Fair, which is kind of yuppie/pretentious but I still like it.

I know four people who work there and they all hate it. If they call out sick, they lose hours for weeks and weeks to come. Baggers are treated like shit and the managers pay no attention to who does what they're supposed to do and just stand in the front of the store and talk all day.

If you clock in one minute early you're stealing Publix company time, but making you stay until 2:30 AM without warning to wax the floor is okay.

You get one coupon a month. For Thanksgiving it was for a turkey, the rest of the year it was for a sub or frozen pizza or something.

Nobody likes working at Publix, if they tell you they do it's because they are desperately hopeful that they will be managers some day. They won't though, they out-hire managers younger than most of their workers.

Doesn't beat a Kroger. I have 4 Krogers around me here and the closest one is in a well off jewish area. OMG the food they have there. Cheese selection that rivals a farmers market. Bread, bread ,bread Mexican coke. Kosher food.

I moved to Virginia 7 years ago and the grocery stores here suck. Farm Fresh seems nice at first until you realize that nearly everything is cheaper elsewhere. Food Lion is cheap but the stores aren't very nice and I wouldn't buy meat there. Kroger is kind of a halfway point between the two, with the bonus of them stocking some dairy products from a local farm. Unfortunately, it's the furthest of the 3 from my house. The Harris Teeter in Williamsburg is really nice, but it's like 10-15 miles from where I live.

I'm moving back to Florida for ~6 months in a few weeks, so I'll be happy to be within a short distance of a Publix again. That's one of the few nice things I can say about living in Florida.

In case you all weren't aware, Fresh Market is Publix's response to Whole Foods.

Basically an upscale organic Publix. Good selection on organic veggies, excellent cuts of meat and seafood and good cheeses. Everything else is overpriced and best avoided.

Gotta love the free samples of coffee when you walk in tho

I actually didn't now they were Publix affiliated. There's one right across the street from a Kroger here.

You know what, I just did a bit of research and it appears I was wrong. I'm pretty sure the local owner of the Fresh Market in our town is affiliated with Publix but it's not wholly owned by them.

My mistake

They have a pretty good selection of sodas as well. A lot of normal grocery stores stock Virgil's and a few other brands, though Fresh Market's selection is a lot better. I generally stop in to grab a drink when I stop at Costco or on Tuesdays when they generally have a few good deals.

>> No.5081781

I have never seen any of your guys' grocery stores.

We have Pick n' Save, Piggly Wiggly, Woodman's, Sentry, and Sendick's.

Woodman's is by far the best though. HUGE selection, and walking into the liquor department gives a thristy man the feeling of a kid in Willie Wonka's factory.

I lived in FL about 7 years ago and I always shopped there. My only gripe was that their beer selection kinda sucked compared to places like Whole Foods of Fresh Market. They were improving though.

Every now and then I'd go to Fresh Market to get steaks or other meats but everything there was much more expensive, so everything else I bought at Publix.

I lived in the 561 area.

The Publix near me is in a city area and it has a really cool escalator system for shopping carts because the entire lower level is a parking garage.

Shit really fascinated me when I first saw it.
