I'm looking for a good popcorn popper. I usually just throw a bag in the microwave but stuff out of an actual popper is usually a lot better. Do you guys have any recommendations? I don't want to spend a ton

I never understand this first world phenomenon of microwave popcorn and popcorn 'poppers'.

Why not just a pot on the stove?

Agreed, it takes 0 effort, 0 investment, 0 space, and is PERFECTLY popped in about 3 minutes, max. Very little old maids with just about any brand of kernels I've tried.

Honestly, I didn't think of that. I'll have to just do that then

Do you know how to? You need to cover the bottom of the pot in oil, heat it up with one or two kernels in the pot until they pop, then put the rest of the kernels in. Pop until the popping slows down and then remove from heat.

Yeah, was just looking through instructions and stuff online. Shouldn't be difficult

>Popcorn kernels in a paper lunch bag
>No oil, no nothing
>In microwave on high for 20 second increments until popping stops
Fucking done.

Because popping it on a stovetop makes the kernels greasy.

You can use very little oil - ie if the pot isn't hot yet the oil won't even cover the bottom, once it heats up, only then it spreads

Sounds like you're using too much oil there bro.

Air.

Go to a thrift store and get one there. They always have a couple popcorn poppers in those places.

The best pan to use is a good wok. makes absolutely perfect popcorn.

Get an electric air popper.

3 Tbsp of oil
>Canola works, so does olive oil, I've used both because that's all i have.
1/3 cup of kernels.

Or 2 tbsp and 1/4 cup.

Put the oil in a large pot, make sure you have a lid for it. Turn the heat to high. Place 3 or 4 kernels in the oil and wait for it to heat up. Once the kernels pop, add the 1/3 cup of kernels. Put the lid on.

lower the heat a bit if your stove gets super hot. Shake and swirl the pot to make sure the oil gets spread over the kernels. let it sit on the heat for 30 seconds. Shake and swirl.

Just like the microwave directions, repeat until the popping stops, then its done.

Top with:
>butter & salt
>cinnamon & sugar
>olive oil, salt & dill
>cayenne & salt
>duck fat and pink Himalayan salt

Olive oil is horrible for popcorn, it can't handle the high heat. The smoke threshold is way too low.

>> No.5063219

>>5063216
Agreed, I only suggest olive oil if you're drunk wanting popcorn worse than a naked woman and don't mind the smoke.

Protip: don't bother with the special popcorn popping oil. Its just peanut oil with artificial flavors added.

so true, yet hard to convey. I am ancient compared to many on this board. 54. that don't sound tooo old, until you realize most probably, despite what they told you, you might not get be president. I am all for heatlthy, but if cooking on a stove, in a pot, use a higher smoke point neutral oil, like peanut, safflour, corn, any thing BUT olive or butter. That goes on top, after. of all the things I have tried, and ain't got room for much single use junk, I would get an an air popper that melts the butter on top. ya know you are gonna eat it anyways. but mostly I get small pcks. there is no use buying diet airpopped nutriwhatever, if you are gonna nuke a stick of butter don't kid yourself I use the microwave. SMALL individual packs, At home. In a theatre, smuggle the candy in. I am not gonna pay 5 bucks x 4 for fucking recieces piceses jeezze, movie theater pop corn is dry, or added color, two three squirsts of "butter" ( palm oil, salt or qakerstate 10-30) just be careful. no diatripe( that's there for the grammer naz-- no. Thanks ck, not bad. hope 2014 is great for you all. last part of the capture was blessing, which ck has been to me. occasionaly I learn something.
9 the ck can be.... iritatating but nice. safe at home.. and don't feel bad.
