Don't mean to sound like a dick, but why do americans often eat that kraft singles shit?

I've been to the grocery store, there is plenty of real cheese available. Why do so many not get actual cheese and instead settle for that shit?

Where do you get your cheddar in Germany? I can only find the Kerrygold shit, which is overpriced and quite bland because it didn't age for too long.

I'm not that poster and I don't live in Germany, but if you can find Kerrygold, can you find Kerrygold Leicester? It tastes more like cheddar than Kerrygold's cheddar, which tastes of barely cheese-flavoured nothing.
Proper Leicester tastes like a decent cheddar to begin with and Kerrygold's just tastes like a standard cheddar. Try that.

I enjoy all those other, real cheeses, but kraft singles have there place. First, there's the fact that I, and many other Americans grew up on it therefore there's a nostalgic factor. After that, there's a myriad of reason, but the crucial one for me is that it's dirt cheap. Also, I actually prefer the melted texture of kraft over many other cheeses. And because it basically tastes like nothing, it can let other ingredients/flavors shine, such as a nice bread, eggs, etc.

Essentially, I treat it as a cheap, nostalgic, textural foil for other ingredients.

I can faintly remember seeing and eating a Leicester a good while ago, must've been 10 years now. Might have been from Kerrygold, since I remember the packaging being almost identical to what google images brings up after a search for the Kerrygold variant.
The german website for Kerrygold doesn't show it, so I think it is not being retailed around here. It's a shame, looks like I'm sool if the other anon buys Kerrygold, too.
You've described the taste of pic related pretty well, it's the 5 months aged cheddar. Really bland but melts well, doesn't add anything to cheese sauce besides fat and 'texture'.

Try some knock off goudse kaas. You're right next to Netherlands, so you should be able to get it easily. I find many knock offs taste more of cheddar than anything.

I usually find breddy gud cheddar at the cheese counter in larger grocery stores like Real and Marktkauf.
Alternatively check out your local market.

In general though, there definitely isn't enough cheddar in Germany. Bongland is the clear winner in that department.
