Weihenstephaner probably brews the best widely available German beers in the US.

Tried the Three Philosophers but didn't like the not-so-subtle alcohol taste. 9% is about my ABV limit for beers. Anything above that and the alcohol just overpowers the other flavors (at least to me). To me it's like drenching food in condiments; at a certain point, the condiment overpowers the food it's added to and masks the other flavors. I see the top rated beers are pretty much all Imperial Stouts or Imperial IPAs, so I guess I'm in the minority with that opinion.

there was funny story about sportsmen drinking beer. they had 2 boxes with sponsored beer and 5 boxes of beer where bottles don't have labels at all. (you can wash the labels off by putting bottles in water for few minutes because breweries want save money on recycling and use not waterproof glue) the unlabeled beer is called then "new experimental beer in testing" and players brink it usually from glasses/pins with labels of sponsors. zwinker.. zwinker..

i drink russian beer sometimes. there are two different beer types in Russia:
1: original russian beer (the recipe adapted from Germany, Czechia and Belgium during Russian empire or soviet times) which tastes not bad. the production lines are kept original (fit to Russian climate and ingredients which gives beer own taste).

2: new imported recipes from around the world where they use modern production lines made in Germany Belgium Japan and Britain(not sure about this but someone was talking about once).
this kind of beer tastes very different from place to place and type of beer. some are just like in the West with bit different quality difference because Russians use own ingredients as much as possible. some beers are chemically mixed like many huge breweries do it today and you can literally taste each part of mixture. like alcohol hopf and malt for each own component. on other side some aren't bad because brewery is trying to go traditional brewery style. such beer costs a bit more but is never bad.

my personal experience with Russians. it doesn't matter what you got you have to taste everything trough until you found your beer. the labels there are for a joke. when you found your beer stick to it until you have to move to other town then its the same game again.

I've drank only the normal version of Erdinger, but since you're recommending it: Should I try the ''Urweisse'' ? I don't know what's about that beer, but I really like how the bottle looks, lol. I've also seen someone drinking it before and the foam was HUGE. It's a bit more expensive than the normal Erding Weiss though.

Also, let me just say that Erdinger is beautiful (and all of Bayern, really).

you should try local and monastery beers from Rheintal and Frankental. the area is famous for german wine but beer tastes better for me than elsewhere else in Germany. it is not that heavy like Bavaria and does not big impact on the head like beer in the middle and north west and doesn't have to much bitter taste like North german beer. you can drink it to food and just for relaxing.
