I grew up eating ramen almost every meal for over 10 years and believe me it's not worth fucking up your digestive system to save a few bucks like that. Try other noodles, especially those that aren't fried. My personal favorite are yam noodles.

http://www.foodsubs.com/Noodles.html

>Until recently, the U.S. government required a noodle to contain flour, water, and eggs to be rightly called a noodle. Since most Asian noodles aren't made with eggs, this left them without much of an identity. The FDA permitted names like "alimentary paste" and "imitation noodles," but Asian noodle producers--from the birthplace of the noodle no less--could not use the n-word. The government finally relented, and we can now use the name "Asian noodles."

ramen noodles (in the microwave) drain and leave off the seasoning, add a small can if by yourself or a big can of sliced black olives if there are more and you should be using only ( it does work better withy spagettie, vermacille or angle hair) hard durnm wheat. tats's wahat they want. thats what you give em simple is best. less isa more. noodles with olive oil, ( yeah, probably should get some) siimple is bestest need not travel far.. noodles, oil, cheese and wine or beer. Rice, pasta, potatoes and beans are the main cheap staples. Basically you just need to learn to make these, develop a regular system/method and experiment with different sauces, veggies and meats.

A good place to pick up flavourful ingredients like herbs, spices and sauces is the ethnic food store. The first time I went in there it felt like I'd discovered Aladdin's cave!

When handling raw meat, try to use one hand (left if you're right-handed) for the meat and keep the other hand "uncontaminated" for using the knife or whatever without getting raw meat juice on anything.

Okay, here's my 'refried' beans recipe hot off the press never before published. You can buy cans of refried beans pretty cheap, but making them yourself is 4-5-6 times cheaper and they taste better. Make a big batch and buy some freezer bags. They freeze well and thaw quickly.

1 1/2 pounds pinto beans
5 ounces salt pork (you can use bacon)
1/2 large onion, diced
2 Tbls garlic powder
1 Tbls chili powder
8 cups water
salt
1 cup milk

Soak the beans in water until doubled in weight (at least 6 hours, but overnight works too).
Drain water.
Dice the bacon (smallish) and cook in a pot medium heat until it gets crispy.
Add the onions for a few minutes.
Add the garlic powder and chili powder and stir for a minute.
Add the beans to the pot and the 8 cups water.
Bring to a simmer and cook for about 2 hours.
Add salt (probably a tablespoon of table salt) and a cup of milk (yeah, a I know it sounds weird, but trust me).
Now mash them with the a potato masher or with whatever you have until it's the consistency you like, realizing that they will thicken up A LOT when cooled. It's not going to have the canned bean consistency until it has cooled, so don't freak out.
Alterations: Sometimes I use half chicken stock/half water for the cooking liquid. Sometimes I add enchilada sauce to the beans if I've just made some.

Now, this is my drunk food, but I've been making it since I was a young teen. Get a few flour tortillas (thicker ones are better for this application) and put them in the microwave for <30 seconds. Pull them out and slather some of the beans on them, add a slice or two of cheddar cheese, roll them up and microwave for 2-3 minutes (don't go too long or the cheese will separate and be greasy and hard). Douse them with Cholula, Tapatio, or w/e your heart desires. Cheap ass quesadilla/bean and cheese burrito. Cheaper that the premade frozen guys.

hey /ck/, was wondering if you guys had any recipes for things that included protein power (strawberry specifically) or chocolate casein powder.

preferably not things you bake, but actual breakfast/lunch/dinner food ideas if possible.

reason being is i'm now injured and can't go to the gym for the next little while, and I don't want to guzzle down shakes while I'm out of commission.
