Why do food snobs get so upset over other people using ketchup? I've been in discussions on other boards where people have been extremely vocal about sharing their unsolicited opinions about ketchup being for "plebs," or sometimes "children" when they're extra upset.

I've never met anyone who got their panties so twisted over such a small detail in my life, except when it comes to food snobs and how much they believe they're "above" using ketchup.

But food snobs never talk about the nutritional quality of ketchup, they only mumble things about their palette being superior, or the other people having shit taste.

In other words, they think they're so high and mighty because they don't like ketchup

which if you think about it, is absolutely laughable. Anybody with that sort of attitude deserves to be punched in the face until they died

Because ketchup has been shorthand for American bad taste for decades, and someone insecure about their own opinions on what constitutes "good taste" will be compelled to speak out against the stuff in hopes it shows others they can recognize and confront examples of bad taste.

Ketchup is popular for the same reason soda, candy, cookies and every other sugar laden food is popular. It's why people say that ketchup lovers have the palate of a child.

There's nothing wrong with having guilty pleasures, but ketchup definitely isn't something you should be squirting onto every dish. The reason it's prominent in fast food is because it covers up tastelessness. You get smacked with a sweet, salty and sour flavor.

The issue is that you shouldn't have to load dishes up with sugar to make them taste good. That, and expecting everything to be ridiculously sweet is a habit that's going to lead to health problems.
