Get with the program, england. Cupcakes were before macarons and macarons were before meatballs.

Food crazing is pretty much done with the sweet stuff for now. I think after meatballs it will probably be pork belly everything. The momentum has been building for years, we just don't have a food truck scene or a restaurant chain around it yet.

>> No.4490778

>>4490765
I would say there are parallel trends running for savory and sweet, I've never heard of these croissant donuts things before and, although they sound quite nice, if you are going to make a time consuming pastry I can think of many others I would rather have.

Speaking of cupcakes, I have never understood the attraction to the kind of intricate icing that hipsters love, yeah it looks nice but you end up with a cake that is around 1/3 or more icing and far too sweet to really enjoy (for me at least).
The first time I saw them was at a friends birthday party, I had been drinking and smoking weed all night and just one of them was enough to make me puke on a friends shoe, I have a feeling I would have been alright with a normal cake.

Bloomberg has nothing against nice looking people eating $6 pastries in soho on the weekend. What he wanted to prevent was the 400 lb lard planets from the outer boroughs thundering onto a subway car every morning and evening with a 40 oz HFCS soda because they're too stupid to know any better. But unfortunately the HFCS lobby did a great job with their 20 million dollar astroturf campaign so the ham planets from the other 3 boroughs will continue to assault decent people with their sweat rolls twice a day during the daily commute.

BTW, have fun not being able to buy alcohol on sunday.
