I will be living with some people this summer and will have to buy and cook my own meals for the first time ever. Is there a starter's guide for buying supplies and cooking meals? Thanks

to scramble eggs: Crack two eggs into a bowl and whisk with a fork until it is well blended. Sprinkle salt and pepper into the eggs. Take a skillet and warm it up over medium heat with a pat of butter. When the butter is melted and the skillet is hot pour the eggs into the pan and let set for about 30 seconds, then use a spatula to fold the eggs over on themselves repeatedly. When the eggs are not wet anymore, or done to your likeness then you can serve them.
Oatmeal is easy and cheap. Follow the directions on the back of the box. Top with butter, raisins, a tsp-a tbsp of brown sugar, and chopped roasted nuts (if you want).

Chicken thighs are inexpensive and versatile. Here is a delightful recipe. http://remcooks.com/2013/04/26/pan-roasted-chicken-thighs-with-minute-sauce-on-a-bed-of-fluffy-mashed-potatoes-and-garlic-broccolini/ IF you don't have the herbs described substituted paprika, salt, pepper, and oregano. If you don't have wine to make the sauce just use chicken broth. If you can't find broccolini then use broccoli.

Meat + carb + vegetable.

Just take your time and learn the basics, like pan-seared chicken breast, rice, and spinach. Or salmon, toast, and a salad.

Do you have a guide on how to cook vegetables in many styles? Not OP, but I am very comfortable with cooking meat but my vegetables always come out bland and boring.

The best thing to do for that is to cook the meat first in a pan then sautee the vegetables in the remaining juices. Be liberal with seasonings and herbs too. What kinds of vegetables do you regularly eat? We can give you a few recipes if you throw out some of your favorites.

I tend eat most carrots, potatoes, leeks, onions, mushrooms, cauliflower, cucumber, zucchini etc. I live in Alberta so more fancy vegetables are insanely high priced.

I slice leeks, carrots, and zucchini into batons of equal length and width. I slice an onion into crescents and occasionally a sweet pepper. Over medium heat I melt a little butter or olive oil and once the pan is hot I add the vegetables. I gently shift them from time to time and once they are just about done I sprinkle them with salt, pepper, tarragon (optional), and a squirt of lemon. I simmer them five minutes longer and toss them around to distribute the seasoning and serve.

If you have access to a grill, grilled leeks are some of the best things you can eat during the summer. Cut off the top tough green part and slice them vertically in half. Wash through all the layers thoroughly, pop them in a pot of boiling salted water, and cook for 4 minutes on medium high heat. Transfer to an ice bath, dry, season with salt/pepper/olive oil/ minced garlic/whatever. Get your grill hot at first but turn it down to medium, then lay them face down, turning often. Take them off once they start to feel completely soft and tender.
