I'm a britfag who always thought negative about American beer. I always compared it to piss water. I just got back from a trip to Southern California and I have to say I'm impressed on how far you've come along.

My mate took me to a few breweries and some were named Stone, Alesmith, Lost Abbey, and Green Flash. America is finally getting a taste for decent beer. I particularly like the IPA style. I can't wait to go back.

>> No.4429207

Stone's been around 20 years. The difference is just that Britfags have finally started realizing Americans don't sit around drinking Bud all day.

Those are mid-tier US brews at best, OP.
Try some Great Divide, Victory, Troegs or Dogfish Head.

American craft beer is widely considered to be the best in the world. Unfortunately AB InBev and MillerCoors still has control of 90-95% of the beer market in the US, which warps the perception of people who don't know a lot about beer aside from piss water.

>>4429233
I'd consider those between upper-mid to upper tier due to the fact that they are all rated within the top 100 breweries in the world.

God tier: Three Floyds, Founders, Bell's, Russian River, Hillstead Farm, Firestone Walker, Cigar City

Founders, Bells, New Glarus, Surly, Three Floyds

Three Floyds became a center for cult-beers and has gone down hill since the only Floyd left was the biggest cunt of all. Zombie Dust is really good but Darklord is overrated as far as Imperial Stouts go and doesn't deserve the status it has.

Choosing Breweries based on region instead of their personal merit is completely ridiculous though. Every region has some amazing breweries that shouldn't necessarily be lumped together. Hell, breweries like Ommegang (New York) and Lost Abbey (California) have more in common then other breweries in their own states.

Burton Baton is very good. I understand where you're coming from on the specialized comment. I'd say as far as that goes, the BB is one of the less 'out there' beers. Which is not to say it's not deep or complex. But it tastes basically like you'd expect a beer to taste. None of that crazy saffron and honey like with midas, no full frontal face punch of hops like the 120, no tsunami of malt like the world wide stout.
