When I went to Hawaii I thought the Spam would be less prevalent than people say. I was fucking wrong. I went to a diner that was down the road from my hotel and ordered waffles with some kind of tropical syrup bullshit. Sounds pretty good, right? When I started cutting into the waffles I realized there were slices of fried Spam between the waffles. The menu made no mention of this. I asked if I could get it without the Spam and they acted like I was asshole.

Fuck Spam. It's salty, low quality bullshit.

> It's salty, low quality

That's exactly why it became popular, other than it's preservability, especially in areas where meat can be expensive or hard to get, such as Hawaii during WWII.

I like a small slice panfried with breakfasts on occasion.

What does spam taste like? Is it like Ham or something? I want to try it but for some reason just thinking about it is nauseating.

It's pork based, but I really don't want to know what all goes in, just like any cheap sausage. Sort of like cheap bologna. It's actually alright panfried, smells good and savory and sorta functions like bacon would. I like eating it, but I wouldn't say you're missing out either.

The first ingredient on the can is "pork with ham." Make of that what you will.

I like my spam fried up and served on a roll with guacamole.

Don't good ones use burger patties made from real meat instead of spam?

I think they sell it in CT for like 2.50 per can on sale

that being said, I can get a good size ham steak for 2$ on sale

spam tastes like some kind of weird mushy ham to me and I like it and eat it but don't get why people just don'[t eat ham instead

>> No.4251932

>>4251916

Yeah, a burger patty is the standard meat.

There might be one somewhere under all of that, along with the spam and portuguese sausage.

Hawaii pretty much has variations on most things using spam, though.

> What does spam taste like?

It certainly has a hammy/salty flavor.
It has the texture of super tender ham steak. It doesn't have the grain (not shredable) like ham does. The thing that raises it a notch above "mushy ham" is that it browns real nice. Its like what the char brings to fried baloney or turkey burgers. Without the char its pointless. I alternate vack and forth between bacon, fried balony, and spam to fullfill my salty/savory/burnt cravings. Spam wins out when I want some a bit more substantial.

> Is it like Ham or something? I want to try it but for some reason just thinking about it is nauseating.

Its canned meat for a fact. I don't think its any more off-putting than a hotdog, if you think about what's in those, but hot dogs probably seem more benign because you've had 100's of them already.

Get yourself a can and dice it up like you would onions for a hot dog, scorch it in a really hot skilllet, then eat it mixed with some mershed perderders or warm sauerkraut. That's a good intro that won't shock/awe you.
