Can someone here post good food that is unique to America?

Don't read too deep into it. I don't consider Tex Mex American but I don't exactly consider Hamburgers unAmerica just because it wasnt made here

Here's some New cuisine to start off.

I just can't think of anything when I think of American cuisine. I think of chicken breasts and steaks and potatos and whatever boring meals I can think of.

Tomatoes, potatoes, quinoa, maize, chili (capsicum).

Aside from that, everything came from Yurop, Asia, or Africa.

Seriously. BBQ and whatever shit you are thinking of is what American food is. Part of the reason it sounds shitty is because you're used to it, the other part is that it is pretty shitty. We're not a variety country

The thing about american 'cuisine' is that its a melting pot of all cultures from around the globe, usually mixed together and deep fried or served covered in cheese.

You can see influences from everywhere along the edges of the states, but it all ends up getting 'americanized'.
..that is, 'mass produced'.
The american family has no time to sit down and just 'cook' anymore. ..supposedly.

Everything must be cheap. Must be instant.
Must be mass produced.
Must be IN LARGE PORTIONS.

I often feel like our culture has the potential to be fucking awesome if people would just stop with this 'hurrrr I don't have the time' mentality.

Fast Food

There is also food from Inns and such, mainly in the North East. Don't know what you would call it exactly, but stuff like French Onion soup, ribs, snapper soup, sandwiches (especially club sandwich), burgers, steak, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, apple pie, etc.
You can call it whatever you want, but this is definitely "American" food.
If you take a FOB Asian there, to them it is definitely American food. To most foreigners eating there, it is American food. Sure, might not seem strictly American in origin, but it's a part of our average pallet in comparison to what other countries, especially less western ones, eat.

Anyway, I fucking love cajun food. Thems good eats.

Cajun food has stayed consistently awesome for so many years because theres no real way to 'americanize' it

Theres nothing you can throw into a properly made gumbo thats gonna fuck it up or make it 'quick and easy'.
The only way to make that shit without burning the whole pot and ruining it is cooking low and slow.
Most americans hate that.

There's actually a HUGE backlash against this. It's people shopping at Whole Foods, going crazy (and paying out the ass) for locally sourced and/or organic foods. It's people who actually believe there's a difference between sugar and corn syrup, and that the latter is somehow 'artificial.' No fast food, no takeout, no microwave meals - it's got to be fresh, local, made from scratch.

But we're on 4chan, so ALL AMERICANS ARE 500 POUND LARDASSES WHO CLAP WHEN THEY RECEIVE THEIR DOZEN BIG MACS LEL AMIRITE GUYS?

Potatoes, tomatoes, and corn all originated from America. They aren't native to Europe or the rest of the world.

So if the dish uses any of these vegetables as an ingredient, it's 'Murican by default.

Watch the new in about 1-2 two hours. Casper, Wyoming.
I'll be using 3 jars of Nutella, bread and a butter knife, an alluminum tray and cookey dough, if opportunity arises, I may put that shit in my oven.

Lifelong lover of hazelnut, including exotic spread Gianduja mix. I've got all kinds of food that could feed a small african village before the UN arrives. But to do that would further the case that many are making now, that Fast Food should be illegal and/or taken from us. So I'm using my life to prove a point to y'all, to show everyone that we are fat because we love to eat Nutella and even Peanut Butter, I'd like to see them ban all of the above. These fucking cunts want a war on fast food, and I'm about to end that war today. I will be fat, I will make it clear that Nutella and bread will make fat even an amateur american any day of the week. I'm tired of hamburgers being used incorrectly, and then never being corrected, and those who know how to put more fat in them being dismissed, having their stomachs made fun of in public or even laughed at. People in OH eat hamburgers with lettuce in them, that's it. But everyone thinks they eat them with butter and bacon like normal people. I won't even go into all the theories about the "drive thru" being fat free and such.

That's it, I will not be posting anymore. I cannot risk giving away my identity or lacation, just be patient and there will be no doubt that the person you see on the news was that guy on 4chan.

I give my life for your fat today. I love you, /b/rothers
I will be leaving a letter that will be found, and I blame my act on McDonalds and KFC and I hope you all do nothing to contradict that.

I'm an unsweetened cornbread guy myself.

The secret is good corn meal. My best cornbread recipe is 1/4 popcorn meal, 1/4 stone ground corn meal, 1/4 white cornmeal, 1/4 flour, lots of crisco in the batter and in the skillet before you preheat it (preheating the skillet to baking temperature is the secret to a great crust, crumbly texture, and flat golden top).

No more buttermilk than whole milk, but a little will help.

Oh yeah, since I want to bring tears to your eyes multiple times here is another protip:

Don't overmix the batter! Leave it a little lumpy, but not too lumpy. Use your best judgement, don't mix until smooth, but get the clumps out.

I know of that trick! Same deal with pancakes. Also, little hint from me to you(and everyone else), if you decide to mix in things - say cheese or niblets or whatever - toss it around first in the dry meal before adding liquids. It helps the additions to not sink in the batter during cooking.

If you're a fan of the jalapeno cornbread I'd recommend making some unsweetened with that recipe, maybe just a touch of molasses instead of sugar.

The unmodified thing is perfectly worth it however. Combine some crumbly cornbread with high-quality buttermilk and you have some beautiful soul food cereal.

Cheap buttermilk will do if you substitute a little sweet cream of half-and-half in the mix.

True, American food. I don't really think that's possible.

By the time America was colonized, the English had had contact with most of Asia, the Middle-East and Africa. When they came to the New World, the Europeans gathered new crops and ideas from the descendants of the Ice Age migrants from Asia.

Japanese food is somewhat distinct because, while they left China, they also ceased contact with the mainland, as the sea was too difficult back then. The other cradles of civilization were also rather isolated for a long time, allowing them to develop independently.

I don't think that was ever the case for America. I don't think there's any, real, American dish. Many Americanized techniques, interpretations and derivations, but I don't think there's a single, real, American dish.

The only, true foods America can make is scientific in nature. Fuck the bone munchers, we're going to space. Amirite?

>> No.4154676

>>4154672
You are a complete dumbass. Most of the cuisines you think of as being European weren't developed until the 1800s, when ingredients from North America became popular in Europe.

Corn
Tomatoes
Peppers
Potatoes

Those 4 ingredients alone, when taken out of most European cuisines, leaves them empty or at least significantly changed.

Just because something isn't unique to here, doesn't mean it isn't American cuisine.

I could by that logic say that no pasta dish is Italian. It's Chinese.

I could by that logic say that roasting, smoking, brewing, are indeed only Mesopotamian or Egyptian, and any where else doesn't have their own food culture.
