So there I was: IHOP. I was out with my comrade, and we wanted fruity pancakes. This bitch waiting our table asks if we want anything, my pal says coffee I say water, my pal see, he's on the run from the feds, and I'm aidin him in a place to stay and a few meals, this bitch doesn't bring him coffee, she brings him water, and so okay, we look at the menu and he decides to bring it up to her and get his damn cup of joe. This dull-eyed waitress-for-life comes over and puts coffee down and asks what we want to eat. we say another minute, and don't you know it, this cunt disappears for 45 MINUTES. so she's back at our table RIIIGHT before we got up to dine n' dash on the cup of coffee, I order up, my associate orders up and Bam. 45 minutes later, we've got our cakes, and I say I'm about to raise a shit fit to get our grub for free. My pal says he doesn't want that due to his legal, er... situation. Fine, I say, we'd better dine and dash.

Okay he says, and from there we donned our coats and jumped from our seats the next chance we saw golden, and I threw a few bucks on the table (so as to tip and dip instead of dine and dash) and we left, scathe free, and now my associate is on better terms with johnny law.

bad service general?

waiter here, I can vouch for this, you have no idea what it's like having a douchebag table who wants a free meal for no reason, or to have a regular table who, no matter what, sends their steak back saying it's not cooked all the way (I've watched the cooks microwave it before grill-marking it), and then not tipping (probably justifying this by saying the steak is not properly cooked ever.). The whole family sneers at you, when you've done nothing wrong, but you can't be short or sneer back, because your job is to be hospitable. If I worked in Sweden, I wouldn't expect tips because it is not the social norm there. I'm moving to France soon, I don't expect to get tipped when I wait tables there, but the social norm isn't to tip when you go out to eat in France.
