Hello /ck/ im here you ask you some questions about your favorite subjects, food and cooking!

So say im living by myself, and i dont know how to cook much (beef squares, pasta, eggs as omelet/scrambled/boiled , grilled cheese, mac and cheese, canned goods) , but im willing to learn for the sake of being nutritionally sound.

What dishes would you recommend i learn that provide adequate nutrition, are entry level dishes, and are on the cheap side?

I typically juggle around what i know how to cook, with turkey sandwiches, commercial cereals, and occasionally microwave meat/pasta packets. And as for beverages, i drink at least 1500 ml of water a day, as well as alot of milk, orange juice, and i like dole's orange+strawberry+banana juice.

Stews and chili are the absolute best for beginners who want to eat cheap and healthy. Invest in a crockpot or slow cooker so you can set it, go about your business, and come back to a delicious meal that will last you the rest of the week.

Just make sure you keep a variety of foods in your diet all while keeping calorie count in check. Sandwiches are pretty good start, they're easy to make, and are quite tasty.

one of the easiest things you can do to make cooking less of a pain, is to make sure you have all your ingredients prepped BEFORE you actually want to cook.

>> No.3885656

making pasta is pretty straightforward.

brown onions and garlic for three minutes or so, take em out and add italian sausage or beef or whatever.

then follow a red sauce recipe, using canned tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, ect. i like to make a huge portion so i can freeze some and have leftovers a few nights out of the week.

also make a huge bowl of salad. it makes for a good side for a few days.

I was just about to make this exact thread OP, as I'm heading out to university in a few days and I'll need to feed myself properly.

Spaghetti bolognese is worth learning how to do properly. It does take a while to cook, but it's fairly easy and the meat/sauce can easily be reheated for leftovers.

I was/am in the same predicament as you. I moved out June 1st, so i've been at it for 3 months now. Its been enjoyable, last night I made a whole roasted chicken with stuffing and potatoes. It was cheap, easy, and will feed me for a few days.

4 pound chicken at 95 cents a pound
box of stuffing 75 cents
2 potatoes- 2 dollars for a five pound bag

rub butter under the skin and overtop. Season with salt, pepper, and italian seasoning. Cook at 375 for 90 minutes. chicken salad for days.

Okay this recipe is easy as fuck so listen up.

- shred 1 head of cabbage in a pan
- add enough water to mostly cover the cabbage
- take 3 medium or six baby sized yukon gold potatoes
- cut into 1/2 inch cubes
- add in 2 cups of sliced onions
- add in 8 quartered button mushrooms
- add a chicken bouillon cube
- add 1/2tsp salt
- add 1 tsp ground black pepper
- add 1tsp cayenne pepper
- add one large chicken breast cut into 1/4 inch strips

Boil all that shit together and you have 6-8 bowls of hearty, clean tasting, delicious soup. All for about $4 or less.

When I make soup in general I just use a base of about 6 cups of water with a bouillon cube, pepper, cayenne, and a bit more salt if needed. Then add chicken breast, whatever veggies you want, rice/barley/lentils/noodles and even a can of italian diced tomatoes if you want, and in a half an hour or so you have soup. Usually I throw in whatever veggies I happen to have on hand.

Even without the chicken it has like 11 grams of protein, plus it is under 200 cals a bowl and full of fiber and other nutrients.

I live on my own and this is a cheap easy meal I have regularly.

Peel and dice 2 large potatoes and throw them in a pot of water on the stove at maximum heat

then melt some butter(real butter) in a pan at medium heat once the butter starts to bubble throw either a lamb/pork chop or steak in the pan(I buy what ever is on special at my butcher), move it around a bit at the start so it does not stick to the pan and keep cooking it until the bottom half is brown then flip it,

while the other side of the meat is cooking I do some vegetables, I buy frozen mixed veg that come in individual portion sized bags that you throw in the microwave for 2:30 minutes they're called steam fresh vegetable or some shit.

while your veg is cooking check your potatoes by now they should be soft enough to stab with a fork easily if so, drain them add a table spoon of butter and start mashing them(you can do this with a fork or a potato) while adding milk until you like the texture.

by now everything should be cooked and ready to serve up, just add hot sauce.

Holy fuck, how is this, i don't even

How the fuck do you even eat TWO LOAVES of JUST BREAD in a day, all the other problems aside. Maybe if there was meat or a similar item that could have bread as a side on the table it would make more sense, but nothing there pairs well with bread as a side, so was she just fucking downing a whole loaf in a sitting? They aren't even fancied-up kinds bread with extra stuff that could be enjoyed by themselves, they're just plain-ass white loaves.

How?
