do you see the fucking quantity of sugar? those are shallow hotels, if they were cooking for people with actual taste they would use maybe 1/8th that much sugar and let the yams sweeten naturally as they cook
also, all of that dirt cheap imitation vanilla, not even going to be able to taste yam

>> No.20476176

You don't put in more candy than yams.
Otherwise the best way to make them is by making a caramel sauce first, then tossing the yams in it, then baking them. Just enough to coat the individual chunks.
Rather than dumping an equal volume of granulated sugar on top.

In the 19th Century gelatin was an ingredient that was both expensive and tricky to work with. But a skilled chef could mold it into shapes and suspend other food inside it in decorative patterns. So rich people had their private chefs make fancy gelatin centerpieces for their expensive parties.

By the early 20th Century they figured out how to make powdered gelatin that was dirt cheap and idiot proof to use (just add water). Now even poor people could make a jello mold for their dinner party to impress their friends. Party like the rich do! Democracy in action! Better living through science!

By the mid 20th Century the rich had moved on to other food trends and the middle class had kind of forgotten why gelatin was used for dinner parties to begin with but were just making jello molds out of habit. Food manufacturers kept publishing “recipes” that were mash-ups of various pre-packaged food items thrown into a jello mold in order to sell more product. Soon public opinion turned against these culinary abominations and the jello mold's reputation never recovered.

those are huge serving trays of yams, it is a normal amount of sugar added to create the syrup to cook them in, so they become thoroughly infused with the sweetness, thus candied
the amount of sugar in one serving is fine and normal, I'm sure you eat the same amount in sweets
or maybe I'm mistaken, maybe you think the serving tray is a single serving for one person... maybe that's the way you're used to eating, idk

There is no possible way any vendor could logistically support selling a million $6 jars of gefilte fish all at one time. It's just not realistic.

I mean they wouldn't lie about being able to store a million jars of $6 gefiltefish even if they only have 4 aisles for it in their warehouse. We should make it a crime to even question if they have the storage capacity.

Just made a batch with beet juice.
way better than I remembered them.
It was a smol batch of 6 in a swing top glass jar.
I'm going to do a dozen in a couple days and use both beet juice and sliced red onions.
I'm hoping they're going to be great on a salad Niçoise with oven roasted red potatoes.
If it ends up looking like HELL, will poast here.

Sautee onions, add the chicken livers, after they've browned enough add some red wine and let it reduce, add capers and rosemary, salt and pepper as needed, add oil or broth to thin the sauce and blend.
Spread it on bread while warm and enjoy the tastiest crostini you've ever had.
