I had a horrible cold last year, and my colleague recommended a herbal tea that has been my go o ever since because it really helps, not just on a placebo level

In the early stages of the cold:

- Elderflower petals (Sambucus)
- Thyme
- Camomile
- Icelandic moss (Cetraria islandica)
- Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)

Late stages (when you start getting better), same recipe, but replace elderflower with sage

To improve the taste, I added rose petals to the mix, but that is optional and not part of the original recipe. I like how it tastes, but it is a bit bitter.

Henlo /tea/ bros, retarded board tourist here.
I want to try some Chinese tea, but there are so many to choose from, can I get some recommendations? What types to try? Favorite tea?
Also any good supplier to EU? I see there are many shops listed in the op link, having a hard time choosing one from the dozens of options...

Henlo newfriend, do you have any current preferences about tea? What types have you had before, if any? Are there any particular tastes you like, or don't like? If we learn more about your tastes, it will be easier to give you recommendations.

Hotsoup.nl is fairly reasonable
I would start out with some Chinese black tea, a Chinese oolong (tie guyan yin) and a Chinese green tea, then you can decide what you want to explore further.
It's pretty overwhelming but the shops in the rentry are reasonably well curated, so they all sell better tea then most places do.

Ive made elderberry syrup for colds before, that and fire cider, cant say how well they work but they taste good.
>>20389693
You can brew it on its own or try mixing it with some tea. I would just start out brewing some in hot water for a couple minutes, see how it tastes and adjust steeping time/temperature from there

I only had some really basic off the shelf tea, some "black" tea and I guess "?basic?" British tea, all prepared with a tea bag dumped in hot water.

>Are there any particular tastes you like, or don't like?
Dont have any likes or dislikes, and in all honestly I just want to try what real Chinese tea tastes like, be it good or bad. Will look up some tutorials on how to prepare it correctly ofcourse.

So ive been drinking a bunch of tea home taiwan oolongs lately.
Loving the taste but i do have one compliant worth mentioning. The cha qi is very jittery bordering on overstimulating.
Its interesting it made me think of this article i was reading on puerh.fr the other day
http://www.puerh.fr/article/sante_origines_qualites_et_proprietes_pharmaceutiques_des_thes_puerh.htm
He is speaking about a study comparing bush plantation puer to natural tea garden puer or whatever you wanna call less intensively farmed tea trees.
>The most significant antioxidant was found in greater quantities in a sample of young puerh gross from a agricultural forest. The highest level of methylxanthine ( stimulant ) was found in a sample of puerh brut ten years old, fermented naturally (natural storage) and from planting on terrace.
Basically the forest tea had noticeably more bitter flavors and higher levels of catechins and the bush tea had significantly higher stimulant class compounds including caffeine.
This kinda tracks with my tea drinking experience where i find natural tea garden puer to be almost relaxing and the most uncomfortably stimulating cake ive ever had was some $12 xiaguan 8603 made mostly out of bush tea.
Anyway back to taiwan i think most of the tea from there is grown in terrace gardens with intensive management practices. So im guessing that's why this tea seems to have a more stimulating kick to it compared to most the the puer ive been drinking recently.

Today's tea: Red Blossom Tea’s “Native Cultivar Reserve”
This is my first time trying a Taiwanese black tea. It is made from a local tea landrace. Supposedly it is big bitten as well. The dry leaves are long and strip shaped, a bit like a dancong. It has some stems mixed in as well which is a bit unusual for a premium black tea, but perhaps it is intentional as the Taiwanese are used to stems in their oolongs. Strong aroma when wet. The tea liquor is clear reddish orange. I agree with Red Blossom Tea’s description of it being reminiscent of stone fruit cobbler. It shares that sweet honeyish flavor with oriental beauty (also bug bitten). Also it has relatively low bitterness for a black tea. Maybe it is just be me today but the tea feels quite stimulating. Overall it reminds me of some of the fruitier Yunnan black tea I have tried. I wonder if the oxidation on these types of teas is not quite 100%. To conclude I enjoyed the tea, it seems like a good example of fancier black tea but it is also not radically different from some other black teas I have had.

>> No.20393112

>>20393084
I get the impression that black teas made in places that usually make oolongs like wuyi tend to have some oolong processing techniques used on them. They tend to have some differences with more traditional black teas and the flavor profiles tend to remind me of oolong a bit.
Maybe some shaking or the style of oxidation is closer to how it's done with oolongs then black teas.

Not as pretty as their premium ripe productions, still a classic recipe cake but much less grade 8-9 tea in it.
There is also the remote mountain old tree series which is priced about the same but clocks in at 500g. I haven't tried it so im not sure what its about. It's probably? slightly less premium since you are getting an extra 100g of tea.

They can do it now without the need for a donor stool and it's a bit like any other topical cream, just put in a vastly different location. We've come a long way scientifically from when my absolute favorite scientific paper was first pioneered! It's far less gross now! Primarily it's used to treat stubborn, antibiotic-resistant C. diff infections (nuke the entire GI tract from orbit to kill off everything, then re-seed with the donor material to outcompete any bacteria which might've survived and promote a healthy and functional intestinal microbiome for the patient.)

>>20396265
The conditions under which kombucha exist also help it to survive into the lower GI tract due to it being naturally more resistant to acid! Kefir is another great option though, yes, as long as you aren't lactose intolerant (or if you make your own with another milk that's more easily tolerated, such as goat's milk.)

Just make batches in a big jar, doing the continuous brew crock thing is how people get sick from contamination. Then again one poster used a crock and swore by it. Hard to get a vale with the right kind of gasket to not get eaten by the acid.
Anyways you don't need to siphon. Just pull the Scooby out and pit in in a mason jar with just enough of the brewed kombucha to cover it and use it as a starter for the next batch, then just pour the kombucha off into a bottle or something. There shouldn't really be any solids in there other then some little strands of bacteria. You want to filter the kombucha when you pour it into the fermenting jar to get the tea and anything else out before it starts fermenting.

This is exactly right and why the subject letting a tea rest is a limp one. If you're storing tea with a non-beginner understanding of ideal conditions, then tea can only stand to get better in your storage. It never hurts to let a tea rest, but fretting over it resists a healthy curiosity for forum dogma. To the curious enough to know tea well enough to store it properly, they should also drink their tea at any time they want to understand it. If your package was stuck in customs for two months, that sucks but consider yourself lucky for the opportunity to experience first hand how your tea becomes conditioned.

educate a noob, why is a teapot much better than a french press, is it about how it retains heat? but why would retaining heat matter if youre drinking puer and youre flash infusing it and fully draining it between infusions, isnt it bad to just let it stew in there and get overbrewed?

>> No.20397229

>>20396955
imo i think youre mostly right, the advantage likely comes from that a teapot will allow the leaves to expand in a way that does not compress them so as to let water fully circulate and to make sure that there is no temperature loss between the quick infusions, as glass does not retain heat well, but i think these factors do not really play a signifigant role in gongfu style brewing like you thought. the actual advantage of a teapot is getting a clay one so you can season it, something you cant do with glass or porcelain. but i only own a teapot for western style brewing; i do all my gongfu in a gaiwan, so maybe an anon with a gongfu teapot can give more insighy.

a distiller will strip your water of minerals and oxygen, not the kind of thing you would want to use for tea. if you go the route of a distiller you will need to go through the process of buying another machine or some sort that will add back minerals and also likely oxygen. i know someone who does this but that is absolutely what like none of us here do. get good tea, just use bottled water or tap water depending on how hard it is, a distiller is absolutely not neccesary.

I honestly would say it depends on the spring water available in your area. I get locally sourced spring water that has almost perfect mineral content straight up for tea. Makes an amazing brew!!

1st day, buy a medium black coffee from Starbucks (its gotta be Starbucks unless your local gas station convenience store has that extra caffeine coffee on hand) chug the coffee within 45 minutes or less and note how you feel
Then the next day throw 8g of lao man e in a gaiwn, pound like 10 infusions in 45 minutes or less, note how you feel.
Make sure you eat a similar amount of food before the drink each day so you don't have too many variables and you don't get sick from drinking a bunch of tea/coffee on an empty stomach.

More seriously those AI wrappers are mostly bad. He should have just done an art contest again. Were the gift cards he gave away in exchange for art really that big an expense?

Anyone here try CCF tea? I drink it for stomach problems, you wouldn't think itntayses good, but with a little stevia its a very pleasant tasting tea.

Why is English Breakfast tea always packed in red? Are there other such conventions? (Apart from the obvious like green tea in green bags )

The fact that every cakes first has the sold out status, but stays on the website for a while, but the 2021 TFLZ disappeared over night makes me put on my tinfoil hat.
Something isn't right here.

>trying to quit the carbonated jew
>try green tea
>it barely tastes like anything at all
Am I doing it wrong or is because I got the cheap stuff?

I steeped it at 175 degrees f for 2 mins. Any more than that and it gets really bitter. Still not very flavorful either way.

Because green tea is SHIT.
Try black(Dian hong) or some oolongs.
Or if you are big boy that watch a punch and can tolerate bitterness, get young raw puer.

yeah, twinings gunpowder is quite bad. buying off the shelf green tea from western brands is a bad idea in general
if you want to get into good tea, buy samples of some blacks, pu-erh and oolongs + greens from a site like this one: https://yunnansourcing.us/

in China. the Japanese green tea harvest is always later, but the higher quality Chinese greens have already been harvested

It's definitely the soda and probably your diet choices that have skewed your tastes and preferences. You were also probably drinking shit tea.
I recommend fasting and ordering good tea from the rentry.

It's just because william is doing it himself and it's not completely automated. He can remove them if needed to keep some stock or else. 2024 cakes will be added in may along the non jingmai teas just need to wait and don't miss it to get what you want.

I find it kinda amazing how cheap Bao Zhang is.
I wonder if the price difference to those "competition grade" teas is really noticable. Is it worth it in your opinion?
I didn't have enough shekels, so I could only order a small sample of last years competition grade Alishan tea.

>Thes du Japon guy,
I don't like that he charges his international customers almost double what he charges his Japanese ones. I am sure a bunch of other shops do this to but it is less obvious on sites that don't let you set the language to Japanese. They like to pretend that the exchange rates haven't changed so they can charge you extra.

yeah its probably my favorite ripe from w2t. other ripes from them at a higher price have more interesting or complex qualities to them but for the price the quality is consistent and enjoyable to me; my only gripe is that i feel like the tea barely lasts a liter before it requires ridiculously long steeping times. still though im definitely picking up more soon. you chose a good start into tea, i hope to see you posting more.

thank you very much, i am drinking it right now, it is much different from the only other ripe i have had, which is the taetea 7572 of amazon. it just feels extremely calming with this subtle earthy flavor, i am gulping it down like its some sort of ambrosia. could drink this all day. cant wait to try the others that i have just received, mostly smoked raws from w2t, little samples. no clue if i even like smoked tea, lots to look forward to this week sampling these

Do you have a preferred tea for drinking during work, staying caffeinated and energetic? I've been taking sheng to the wage cage in my zojirushi flask but it can get me a bit too tea drunk when I'm not trying to mellow out.

Just placed my order on Taiwan Teacrafts. I still had 150€ of credits from last year when my order didn't arrive and they refunded me the whole amount + I was able to keep another order I placed consecutively and which they mixed up with another one. It included this artisan cup, I never would have bought for whopping 80 bux.
