I'm kinda new to cooking and I haven't really figured out the best flavors for my chili, but I thought I'd get your opinions. I'm making some now, I figured I'd see what you all say. I put some chocolate in it this time to see how that goes, but no cinnamon because I'm not some inbred retard from Ohio.

Nobody knows who invented chili and that's completely dependent on how you define the dish.

Let's assume you're talking about cowboy chili.
Cowboy chili or brick chili is a variety of pemmican most likely invented by resident Texans.
Being invented by resident Texans the dish became wholly American no matter the inventors ancestry when Texas became a part of America. This is similar to pizza becoming wholly Italian when Naples became a part of Italy even though it was invented by a "Spaniard" living in Naples, Spain.

How are you defining the dish chili.
If you mean meat stewed with chiles that shit is 100's of years older than chili Colorado.
If you believe chili needs cumin then that's different.

Chili Colorado most likely invented in Chihuahua, Mexico but 0 evidence as to when.
Texas chili has written recipes dating back to 1880.
Brick chili written accounts from mid 1800's.
Chiles stewed with meat, written accounts dating back to early 1500's.

And again, the shit we all eat today is most likely a variation of Texas style chili and none of the others.
