I love Steve but I prefer the vintage MRE episodes. I know they’re hard to source but part of the fun is seeing what has held up over the years, and more importantly what hasn’t.

>> No.19938306

>>19938291
I prefer those too but it is still pretty interesting to see what militaries around the world are feeding their enlisted men today and hear his opinion on it, he may technically just be an amateur but he's the closest thing to a ration expert I can think of

>> No.19938305

for me, its when he gets an mre with cigarettes or that one civil war ration

>> No.19938321

i think his problem was he pretty much did all the easy to acquire stuff. then it was taking him ages to get hold of rare things (as i recall he gets two of everything he opens), but he was worried about a drop in quality so he didn't release much.
and now he's gotten over that i guess and is just letting us have it. somewhere i read he had a pretty big stash of videos he's recorded over the past few years and never released.
i love that stuff too but you gotta be realistic, i think if he had the top shit for us we'd be viewing it.

I know it’s hard to get WWII era and older so I don’t blame him for that. But I would like to see some 80s and 90s rations because those are fairly modern and realistically might still be stashed in some peoples emergency supply. I imagine there are still quite a few of 30-40 year old rations around but I don’t really know.

His big hiatus was actually apparently because he had some kind of shoulder injury and his arm was in a sling for months, obviously making it impossible for him to hold the tray for his third person shots. Why even do a video if he'd have to break format for it

He mentioned some of these videos a long time ago, he's just been sitting on them. I don't remember exactly one, but one of the last videos before his most recent long break mentioned the Estonian ration.

Those tube foods are really unaesthetic to look at but I can't deny they're a miracle of engineering.

>>19938449
Odd for him to take like a year off if he had videos ready to go then, his uploads are somewhat sporadic but that's the only time he's ever gone dark for that long to my knowledge. I know he's said he never does ration reviews until he has a duplicate he can keep for his collection but even then there are hundreds of pretty easy to find rations from around the world that he could have done if he wasn't actually injured and unable to film

>> No.19938605

>>19938488
Food engineering is genuinely fascinating, even if it's not all that visually interesting it's crazy that they can get pureed apple pie into a tube like that that's meant to be consumed while wearing an airtight flight suit at 80k feet and it still manages to taste just like normal apple pie

It should give you a new perspective on your parents/grandparents. When you were kid, they were as old as you are now, and they couldn't shitpost on 4chan. It was a lot more expensive to shitpost back when you had to pay postage to mail somebody a photocopied Coinslot, or pay long-distance to phone a stranger across the country and say the n-word.

SR-71 pilots completed at least one mission over 10 hours of continuous flight with multiple in-air refuelings as an endurance test. Also even on shorter flights it's a high-performance, high-stress environment. You need your gamer fuel.

I really like the one where he reviewed the WWII lifeboat rations because he goes really in depth into the food science as to why they chose candies like Charms because sugar gives maximum energy to someone with little or no access to drinking water as opposed to carbs or fats, or something like that.

my dad used to fly in the US military, and one time had to deliver some single-seat jets to another country. something like a 17 hour flight with refueling. about 2 hours in, one pilot had terrible diarrhea, so he shit himself in his flightsuit and had to sit in it, smelling it, for most of a full waking day while stuck in a tiny tube.

meme culture went way too goddamned far and eventually became part of IRL lexicon. i didn't really see it coming this extremely though. it used to be "revealing your power level" to reference a meme, now it's not weird to hear someone call someone a chad in public or whatever.
