you could make aweek's worth of meals out of 1 chicken and rice casserole (for 1 person).

gimmbap/spring rolls are also cheap foods to make. Gimmbap is rice and seaweed wrapper, basically poor people sushi. spring roll is lettuce and cheap as fuck rice noodle wrapped in rice paper wrapper. You can make multiple meals for less than 5 dollars worth of materials.

soups are also good. Onion/garlic/celery/carrot and flour base, then add water/stock. From then you choose what kind of soup you are making: cream of requires milk and cream, throw in chicken and noodles, or pork, or beef to make various kinds of soups. If you have an emulsion blender you can turn tomatoes/potatoes/broccoli into creamy soups.

hard boiled eggs, the ultimate poorfag food. salt + hard boiled egg = good. just sprinkle a tiny bit between each bite. you can make it fancy if you have mustard and spices, make egg salad or deviled eggs, or egg sandwhiches.

if you want to make bread from scratch you just need water, flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

its the fall so you could probably grab apples from people's yards. if you arent retarded you can preserve those. Apples chopped, boiled, and blended is apple sauce. Apples dehydrated are apple chips.

if you are an extreme poorfag buy some radish seeds, they grow in the winter in most places. you can make a fuck ton of radishes in less than a month.

I tend to spend around 300$ per month (for one person), and that includes splurging on eating out.

First, consider food that you can serve in bulk. Pastas and casseroles are king, as others have said. You can vary them pretty well, and use good fruits, meats and vegetables very efficiently.
Second, identify the key cost drivers when you shop. Meat (especially steaks) can easily cost a ton of money for not many meals.
Third, minimize snacks. Snacks and desserts can add a lot to your food expenses, and they leave you constantly craving for more. Either make your own snacks or find healthier alternatives. If I buy a box of 12 cookies, I'll eat them in a day or two; if I make 24 cookies, it'll last me a week.

Rice, lentils, pasta. You can make these a million ways so they're always good to have. Cheap, filling, flexible. That's what you want on a broke nigga budget. Those are your staples. Always have them and vegetables. For breakfasts you want eggs, milk if you can drink it, and bread. Always have bread to dip or make sandwiches and eggs are about as cheap as you'll get for breakfast food.
For meats you'll want chicken. Every now and then if you get a good deal look for ground beef and things like that. You'll have to manage to your tastes obviously.
Everything else is just mixing and matching the above into meal combinations, with an occasional allowance for extra ingredients that cost a bit more. But you want the above as your staples. Always have yourself loaded with them. That's your base and you should never go hungry. Even if it's not the best you'll have at least enough shit to mix and match for a variety of meals that are healthier than goyslop, cheaper, and filling. Can't go wrong with them.

OP, Main thing you need to get when saving money is that you need to do shit in BULK. Small scale = convenience in the food world. Take for example SPAM: a slice of spam in its literal foil packet is FAR more expensive than a can of SPAM, and a can of SPAM is more expensive than a pallet of SPAM. This applies to ALL other food items. Little cups of pre-made rice? Expensive. 20lb bag of rice? Cheap. 6 eggs? Expensive. Monster pack of 48? Cheap. You need to scale up in purchase volume. Bonus for this is you don't need to grocery shop as often which turns into gas savings! Avoid paying for convenience. Get whole chickens. Get whole ham molds or whole ham chunks. Get whole turkeys. Get used to making soups and stocks. Don't pay for shit like water. Water gets piped into your house for cheap (or is free if well), don't pay upscaled prices for water. The final thing you can do is eliminate waste. Bones used in stock, ham bones to flavor beans, that type of shit. Turn stale bread into croutons/crumbs. That is old grandma knowledge right there.

Big principles:
1. Don't pay for water
2. Don't pay for convenience
3. Buy in bulk where possible
4. Make large scale meals - big pots of soup, stews, etc. then store leftovers.
5. Eliminate waste, use everything as best as possible.

Found the trick is not to thaw before cooking. For green beans I throw them into a large pan, frozen, medium heat no oil, you can crowd it a bit but don't layer, until they have thawed and got some heat to them.

Add your choice of oil and salt, cook until they start going a touch wrinkly, add garlic, cook until you start getting color. I aim for some browning. Splash of lemon and serve.

Brocolli bake on a sheet, frozen, once they are thawed out and got a bit of heat, use the sheet to drop it in a bowl, toss with oil, salt, garlic, throw back on sheet, continue baking until color, browning with a touch of black. I have failed everytime trying to do this in a pan, only succeed baking. Green beans can bake or pan fry but I find the pan is faster and nicer.

Cauliflower same as Brocolli.

Attempting spinach sometime this week, figuring this is gonna be the tricky one.

All my tests have shown not to let it steam itself, cook while it's frozen.

Depending on what country you're in I found that vegetables and fruits from the weekly farmers market is significantly cheaper than buying fruits and veg from the supermarket. I usually spend somewhere between 10-20 on everything I need for the week for one person, that is all vegetables needed for dinner and fruit during the day time for every day and I usually have leftovers at the end of the week.
Try and look for things in season, don't try and buy out of season veg and fruits during their off season because they will be expensive.
As for breakfast, I save a lot of money on eating quark (?) with breakfast granola and a cup of coffee or tea. And typically I don't eat junkfood of any kind unless it is my cheat day.

I've been living the frugal life for 2 years. I eat well for less than $5 a day. Here's how

>Shop Aldi, Walmart, or some other cheap store. Look for sales.

>Protein is more expensive but you can find affordable chicken and pork. Eggs are also an affordable and tasty source of animal protein. Egg prices have come back down. You can get a dozen for less than $3 and organic cage free for less than $5. There are also some good cheap sausages out there. Most steak cuts will be too expensive but there are occasionally some cheap cuts like top round which actually taste pretty good. You can find also decent deals on ground beef.

Here is one of my favorites: get a Knorr rice or pasta pack for like a $1.25. Throw in some frozen peas, or frozen broccoli, or some spinach. Then throw in some cheap ham or sausage or chicken. Thats 2 serving for $3 total and it tastes good. I have this at least once a week.

I found a few recipes that I like, one is curry and the other is a chicken teriyaki/sweet chili/what ever the fuck I feel like. With some basic knowledge and a trial and error you can make all kinds of combos and spin offs. I really like chicken hearts and gizzards, decided to make a curry dish with them and it was amazing, I make it regularly now because hearts and gizzards are cheap and hearty. Same with beef liver. Get chicken thighs with the bone and skin, not only will it be cheaper, it's also more options for dishes to make if you feel like experimenting. I'm being serious here, if you need some inspiration for things to cook or ideas to base your meals off of, youtube some off the wall videos, like chicken heart curry, find the one made by a random lady in her kitchen and you'll see how real people without a camera crew and professional set ups make food. Browse ethnic stores and butchers/produce places, around me there are a lot of Mexican stores, they have quality meats and produce for less than corporate stores like Walmart, winn dixie, costco or whatever you have in your region.

Drinking water is inexpensive if you only pay for the water itself. I have several five gallon bottles like pic related. It used to be $0.25 a gallon for filtered water but even at the inflation price of $0.43 a gallon, for drinking water it's still reasonably priced.
The one time upfront cost for the bottles is pretty low. The only other cost is store brand denture cleaning tabs, which is what I use to disinfect the bottles between uses. That added $0.006 to the per gallon cost, so less than a penny.

Buy fresh meat, frozen veg and dry rice/pasta/beans.
Track meat sales and have a spreadsheet with the cheapest sales you get. Buy extra when prices are within 10% of the cheapest you've seen or lower and freeze it. Bone in skin on chicken is the cheapest and thighs are a better calorie/$ ratio than whole bird. You can save the bones for stock later if you really want to stretch it but I only do that with whole bird carcasses. Picnic pork roast or shoulder is pretty cheap too and easy to throw in the oven to get 4-6 meals.
Veg rarely goes on sale where I am so I buy a big bag of frozen mix and call it a day. Smaller steam-in-bag ones go on sale sometimes and get within spitting distance of the big bags so I grab a couple for lazy days to pop in the microwave.
I don't eat many carbs anymore so my 20lb bag of rice has lasted a long time. Dry beans are fast and easy using the boiling method or a pressure cooker.
