I use an aeropress. Since it's a french press it tastes better than drip brewed coffee but it's also economical because it makes one cup at a time. I share the sentiment but I also think it should come within your means.
I've noticed this weird trend where the ones most likely to cultivate these very expensive hobbies (be it coffee, or alcohol, or teas, premium chocolates, you name it) are middle class people for which the expense is a non-trivial hit that makes them go from "Could save one grand every month" to "Lives month to month".

Of course this will call the counter-argument that "And save money for what? You gotta enjoy at least something in life", but I wasn't trying to argument against hobbies.
I just find it odd that the class most likely to pick up this sort of very involved, expensive kind of hobby is also the kind of person whose financial and life prospects are hit the hardest by it.

i fuckin love coffee, but haven't gone further than a cheap blade grinder and a french press i found when clearing out my grandparents house. sometimes i'll buy a stupid expensive bag o beans from my most local roaster and hell yeah its fucking delicious, but not twice as good. i drink it with milk anyway so i'm not sure i'd see the benefit of buying a burr grinder and whatnot. also i like darker roasts as well, which i understand to be pleb taste. couldn't tell you the difference between beans but i regularly get a variety from peru and they're my fave. thanks for reading my blogpost.

I don't understand why people defend buying a worse PC with a limited library and paying extra to use their own internet connection. Posters on this site tend to hate people who indicate that there’s depth to something you might be interested in, like coffee. Hoffman comes out the gate swinging in that regard. All his videos dump coffee knowledge onto the viewer. I don’t really watch him that often because I was a barista for five years until I went to college. If I didn’t know anything about coffee, and I saw one of his vids, I like to believe I’d think “hey this guy knows a lot about coffee” and try to absorb what I can from his video, but the 4chan response to people who know what they’re talking about is often flippant rage for some reason, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the average poster here has this guy living rent free in their head. I don’t know why you’d get invested in something like coffee if you don’t want to watch at least one spindly twink explain something you don’t know once in a while. If you just want something to sip on while you drive to work, just get a decent automatic drip and never look back.
