youre gonna get 3 kinds of people here, op
>people that cook it on a stovetop, in a pot
>people that buy the cheapo 20 dollar ones and are content
>people that buy the 200+ dollar ones
every one of those is going to exclusively fight for, and defend the one they use, usually because its the only one theyve used.
i would say a moderately expensive (200-250) zojirushi or cuckoo or similar brand is a sound thing to buy if youre eating rice daily/near daily, as it makes it stupidly simple to prepare, with even water measurements not having to be exact, couple that with slow cooking and steaming functionality, it just makes my life simpler that i can throw shit in a pot before work, set it to cook an hour before i get back, and have dinner ready when i do get back
the people using 20 dollar rice cookers probably just havent actually bought an expensive one yet, or dont see the need to as they dont have rice often enough
as for faggots like >>19668133 theyre just elitists who genuinely think that its an accomplishment to set water to boil for 10 minutes, and they act like everyones gonna suck their dicks over it

A pot on the stove.
>HOW TO MAKE PERFECT RICE

3/4 cup rice, well-rinsed
1 1/4 cup water
Put in a pot
Turn heat up to medium-high (about 6/10)
Add in butter, rosemary, hot pepper flakes
Stir a bit, let it rise to a mild boil
Turn heat down to medium-low (about 3/10)
Cover
Wait until all the water cooks into the rice (You can see by peering through the rice and seeing if there's still bubbling down there, usually about ~15 minutes)
Remove from element, take off lid, fluff vigorously with fork
Cover with a dish towel (doubled up) and put the lid back on
Let it sit for ~10 minutes
Remove lid and towel, stir rice
Boom, perfect rice.

Water/rice rations can change depending on the type of rice.

I've done all three. Im a white kid who spent a lot of time in Asian households, so I was on the rice cooker train for a long time. I once tried to make a soup in the rice cooker but forgot about it for several days to weeks and my roommates hated me and it created some trauma. For some reason I always thought rice in a pot took 45+ minutes and said fuck that. The key is to only use Thai Jasmine rice (the best rice).

Stainless steel pot.
1 1/4 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice.
Add rice, water, salt to pot. Bring to a foamy boil. Timer for 12 minutes. After 12 minutes give it a stir. Turn the heat off but leave the pot in place. Timer for 10 minutes. Fluff. Serve.

No stick. No burn. Great smell. Great taste. Very versatile for everything from bowls to cheesy rice concoctions yo fried rice (after chilling) to pajeet food.

Eh, I cooked it in a pot recently. It's just easier in my instapot - rice goes in, gets washed, appropriate water amount goes in, set it, forget it, it beeps when done. Rice done, exactly (if not better) as if I did it on the stove. Doing it on the stove requires a bit more stirring and attention.

I'm sure some jap rice cooker could up my basic skills, but I am not spending 200 on a dedicated rice cooker. The pressure cooker does just fine.

>Also, the cheapo burns the rice on the bottom, do not recommend cheap rice cookers.

>Tap water is naturally filtered.
This VASTLY differs based on where you live. Cooking with tap water would be retarded in places like Flint, MI. I know what constituted local tap water for my area was fucking terrible. The well I used to be on had tons of sulfur in it. Only my current place has decent water. Still filter and distill it though out of habit. Never know when sneaky shit might get into my well.

Anybody know why rice can get sort of gummy and congealed? I've always just used a 2:1 water to rice ratio in my cheap rice cooker but this normal jasmine rice I got a while back gets fucked up for some reason.

If youre just cooking regular ass rice get a $50 dollar tiger. Unless youre actually buying good rice there is no reason to get an IH pressure cooker rice cooker.

Just buy the most expensive one you feel comfortable buying.
The two main brands I know of is Zojirushi and Cuckoo.
Zoji is Japanese, Cuck is Korean. If you like one more than the other, then go for it.
Unless you're a rice expert, you won't notice the difference between the two brands. So I would pick which ever you find more aesthetically pleasing.
