19577565 No.19577565 [Reply] [Original]

Is american food actually sweet compared to other countries?

My in-laws were visiting from London and my wife's dad kept saying that everything he's eaten has been sweet. Burgers, pizza, bbq, everything he had he said he felt sick after because it tasted like it was packed with sugar. He even went as far as getting greens and baking an unseasoned chicken breast to eat and said it was STILL sweet. He ended up going home after 3 days of being in the states because he couldnt eat any food. Was he just having a schizophrenic moment or was he right?

>> No.19577581

I've been to London and live in the states. He's retarded unless he went out of his way to get sweet sauce bbq and went to a pizza place with exceptionally sweet sauce. The part about an unseasoned chicken breast being sweet just means that he didn't want to be here anymore and instead of just saying that, he did what women do and created an entire issue in his head to justify it.

>> No.19577583

Curious where he ate. Some American bbq sauces for burgers can be really sweet, some places add sugar to their fries but most don't. I'm a Swedish immigrant myself and I'm not a huge fan of sweet food but you can easily avoid it.

At that point it sounds like he just convinced himself to hate it. If you eat out in America and order garbage it will absolutely be too sweet, but if you make your own food at home it's as sweet as you want it to be.

Euro in Ameriland here.
Nearly everything highly processed is much sweeter than similar foods in other countries, yes.
Sometimes, that's to the benefit of the food itself (I honestly prefer American style sweet marmalade v the bitter one from my home country) but most of the time, I find it extremely unpalatable (any bread baked in the US, prepared sauces/condiments, ready meals, sausages etc).

It's incredibly sweeter. All staple processed US foods are drenched in syrup or sugar.
BBQ sauces and "chinese" sweet sauces turn the dish into a mess
The whole concept of "sweet meat" is fucking awful. I've tried ordering the chick-fil-a that is so popular there are lines around the block and its a chicken meat with a very sweet batter and sweet sauces
This is what europeans mainly don't expect coming into US: most meat dishes and bread are too sweet

No, and him saying the greens and chicken were too sweet pretty much proves it's all bullshit. This whole stereotype comes from Eurobeans visiting the states and buying the cheapest, most processed options available. Like yes, the Little Debbie types of snacks are too sweet, you're buying a comfort food for poor people. It's probably like this anon said >>19577581

Foreigners can't be trusted about food. I worked with this Indian guy and he complained about everything he ate, no matter what it was or where it was from, it was too strong or it stunk, it all made him retch. Then he tried the shit they keep under the heat lamps at 7-11 and was raving about it, loved it. The worst bottom of the barrel taquitos and pizza and crap. Just fuck em.

Yeah, my part of the country prefers bread "well done." If we happen to move elsewhere in the country, we have to ask the bakery ahead of time to "burn it" for us when ordering a loaf, otherwise we're stuck buying what would, to us, be undercooked bread but even undercooked bread back home is crustier than similar bread sold in the US.

We have an American supermarket chain in Australia that sources many of its goods from the US and a lot of the stuff London fag said is a lil true but obviously exaggerated. You guys do have some sweet az food.

Same question. Are you talking about like wonderbread? If so, you're probably right...It's been 25 years since I've had shit like that.

Specific types of foods, I'm talking about Costco which mostly has home brand stuff since not many well known brands have huge version of their items.

>> No.19581409

>>19581189
I think most Costco stuff is rebranded other stuff anyway, but I was more curious if you'd gotten stuff that typically has sweeter variants (bbq sauce, certain breads, even pickles).

A little BBQ sauce on a mushroom Swiss burger with caramelized onions is pretty good. I usually use honey mustard, or no condiments at all on a mushroom Swiss, but BBQ sauce definitely pairs well.

This must be it. I guess when they come to America they want to try famous American foods which are really just processed crap unless you narrow down the region. Everywhere in Europe has processed crap too but obviously it’s not something you eat regularly. To be fair we have a shameful class of people that ends up in viral videos, reality shows etc that eat nothing but frozen pizzas and snack cakes.

Indeed, why don't they stay on their own imageboards? It's not easy for us Americans, being the entire world's onii-chan, always in demand for attention. But take pity on the yuros, you have no idea how much pride & satisfaction they get from even a single (You).
