why do animal eaters support the lifelong misery and torture of highly intelligent farm animals, but shit their diapers about a pet being kicked?

Rationalizing the torture and murder of these animals is similar to what serial killers do when they "just" kill prostitutes.

The only Chloe was ever alive is because her ancestors were useful to humans. Good chance her bloodline would’ve ended long ago from disease or beating eaten alive by predators in the wild. Instead she gets to reproduce and die instantly from a bolt in the brain. Domesticated animals have it made, evolutionarily.

>Domesticated animals have it made, evolutionarily.
If they were treated well on a farm, I agree. But for animals like chickens in those tiny cages, that seems like a completely miserable existence with nothing positive about it making it worth experiencing.

God only made man in his image. He set us above all other living creatures. man alone possesses rational thought, moral choice, and most importantly, souls. to insinuate that animals have "rights" or that they should be spared at the cost of human well-being is not only retarded, it's sacrilege

that's actually a good point. society treats pets as higher than humans too. cows are intelligent enough to know that they are headed for the slaughtering line, in the same way that a dog knows that it is headed to the vet

your average farm animal isn't smarter than a dog
(but pigs are)
>ah yes, because any life, even one of constant torture and abuse, is preferable to never existing?
that puts a point on the question of natalism itself though
but that line of reasoning doesn't necessarily lead to veganism -- I mean, you could become a vegan just to avoid being complicit in animal torture, sure. but the messaging is usually retarded slogans like MEAT IS MURDER. even the OP image shows someone whining that the cow "wanted to live" and was "killed" for meat when, yeah, it wouldn't have lived in the first place without farming.
all I'm trying to say is the mistreatment of animals and the morality of raising and slaughtering animals for meat are two different moral questions

I don't care that she had a name (not that she realized it) or that she wanted to live. Of course she did, but she lived because her destiny was to be turned into Scotch fillet steaks.
I didn't ask to be born a creature that must consume other organisms to live, but that's how it is. Even if we could re-engineer ourselves into beings that could consume rocks and sunlight to survive, we'd still be denying other organisms access to those same sources of mineral nutrients and energy. Other things MUST die, suffer, or face greater challenge to exist purely because you exist (if not now, then in the future or through their descendents); it is a core fact of reality that cannot be circumvented.
That being said, humans are moral beings and prefer to make ethical choices. If I can live my life while minimizing negative effects on those around me, I should do that. My body craves delicious, nutritious meat, and I will see my body satisfied. Animals need not be tortured for that to happen though. I will eat Chloe, but I also prefer that she live a happy life with other cows and be killed in a humane manner. I will indirectly force chickens to lay eggs that I will confiscate and have my wife use to make luxurious baked goods for her self-satisfaction, but I will buy eggs from companies that treat their chickens the best.
Sorry vegans, but I will never, ever side with you. I've looked down on vegetarians my entire life for their half-assed philosophy. You don't think animals can be humanely raised and slaughtered? That the bees mourn the loss of their honey? Fine, draw the line wherever you want. But don't think I'm going to praise you for cultivating and butchering millions of plants so you can turn their children into coconut-date energy balls, and their own corpses into clothing and salads.

It’s actually comforting to eat steak of an animal that was personified, named, and cared for. In my opinion, being able to respect an animal in death while you benefit off of its life is the best exercise of power a human can do over life. Meat eaters and vegans that are discomforted by this have a disjointed view on the cycle of life, and only carry these morals for their own selfish comfort.

In some sense, yes, but that's not what I was referring to. She recognizes the sounds that indicate something involves her, but she doesn't consciously understand the concept of a "name" or social identity. Same goes for human toddlers -- my friend's two-year-old has learned peoples' names, but she is confused when asked what her own name is. She knows to associate them with people as indicators of desire or tools to get attention, but the deeper concept of what names are is unknown to her.
In short, I'm saying cows lack both the degree of consciousness to appreciate that they should live because they were unique beings capable of social interaction, the ability to comprehend these concepts, as well as the level of reasoning to assess this argument.

I think humans are innately repulsed by the thought of killing other mammals (for any reason other than self defense) and that to eat them takes an extreme amount of cognitive dissonance due to our tendency to anthropomorphize animals and low species loyalty. This would mean that eating beef is less natural than killing a pitbull you feel threatened by

yeah feeding an animal what it considers super tasty food, protecting it from predators and disease before quickly killing it.

once it's dead it can't suffer or have suffered because you can't have suffering without life and a memory of said suffering.

life is suffering, suffering ended.

>raising an animal in a safe environment away from predators where they are guaranteed food and water before stunning them and killing them, then using every part you can, is the same as killing a hooker
Not a good message dude. You're basically arguing murderers should receive a lesser charge because they killed a pimp's property, and not a person.

Here's the answer: We are genetically hard-coded to view dogs as friends and companions. Humans and dogs have co-evolved for over 30k years to the point that we can understand and act on each other's facial expressions, body language, and moods. When humans and dogs look each other in the eyes the" love hormone" oxytocin is released in both parties which chemically bonds us. Without dogs, it would have been nearly impossible for us to survive the Northern European climate, let alone conquer the world. We lifted each other out of the wilderness and forged civilization together. Dogs and humans will forever be a pair, and to not love dogs is inhuman. On the other hand, cows, chickens, and pigs have been sources of food for millenia and there are no bonds between us other than sustenance
