I think I just stumbled upon the deenz mecca. It was kind of busy so I only took the one picture, but it actually kept going beyond what's in the image.

Lol. Yeah, I know. I took the picture from the shitty end of the aisle because I'd looked over everything and by the time I got to the end there was a moment when there was nobody around so I took a quick picture. There was definitely some interesting things, but most of it wasn't exactly premium stuff. I'd just never seen so many deenz in one place before (it's obviously not all sardines, but that's kind of understood at this point).

Obligatory, but very uninteresting haul. Again, I didn't go in looking for anything in particular, and just kind of grabbed a few things I needed/seemed interesting. Most of this stuff I can get elsewhere. I had to get the "Fish N' Nuts", and will post pics if the thread is still up when I open it.

Accurate. If you know what a Samoan looks like they're immediately recognizable. Imagine the Rock with 30% body fat, a scarier face, but the same personality. Really chill people, but not ones you want to start a fight with.

It's funny because the biggest Korean grocery store near me also has an entire Russian section for some reason. Not like an aisle or two of Russian products; like you have to go through a door and there's a whole separate area of just Russian (i.e. Eastern European/Russian) stuff. If you go even further back there's a lady making fresh tortillas. And you can bring anything you buy to the bowling alley/karaoke place next door. Sometimes living in a 1st world country is pretty nice.

I was posting about sardines on /ck/ long before "deenz" ever became a meme and it really feels like the whole thing has become overblown. I like deenz. I try all different kinds of deenz and other canned fish. But I mostly just open a can and put them on saltines with whatever my current favorite hot sauce is and wash it down with a glass of bourbon. And I love it. When people started talking about "fisherman's eggs" I tried it out of curiosity and my entire house smelled like shit for two days. You don't bake canned fish. It's already the best it's going to be. So stop putting it on pizza (anchovies go on pizza, but only at the very end), stop putting it in your sauces (it doesn't add any significant flavor), and stop telling people to bake it for breakfast. It's a quick, cheap, delightful drunken thing to eat at night when you're feeling lazy.

I like it, but it's cheaper at my regular/closer Asian market. Also fuck those noodles with the smiling guy giving the peace sign. I like sichuan pepper, but this was like eating a fucking car battery. I don't think I've eaten anything that made my choke and tear up as much as those noodles, and I've eaten rijsttafel that was way beyond my spice tolerance and had a much better experience.
>>19520465
That's actually really true for me, but only because it always seems like a hassle to go to the Asian grocery store so I have a list of like 4 things and then just buy random shit. I do buy meat/fish and produce pretty often - just not most of the time because I'm not cooking Asian food/whole fish/chicken feet/pigs ears every night. Oh, and the prices on most of the stuff I do regularly use aren't much different than the regular grocery store down the street.

that's a single serving bro. and likely canadian dollars pricing too. likely a bit of mark-up being a smaller store (same cans of mega go for $0.99 cad at larger chain grocers). for an extremely cheap meal though $1/serving just for the protein is a bit on the expensive side. honestly though they're pretty decent; sardines with tomato sauce goes good on warm rice, especially with a splash of soy sauce and maybe some chopped raw onions.

If you're talking about basic shit like Kikkoman, I've noticed the same thing. The big Japanese import bottle is always cheaper than the made in America stuff. It really varies depending on the store, though. Unless there's something I can only get at an Asian grocery store, I always compare prices. Often, things like green onions or ginger will be cheaper at Asan markets, but other things you'd expect to fall into that same category can be twice as much depending where you go and what you're regular grocery store is charging. In general, I've found that exclusively, or even primarily, shopping at Asian markets is not really the cheapest.

they also have the same two items, but different brands of a raw ingredient and one will be worth twice as much. they may not put up both prices though so it's a gamble choosing which one will be cheaper.
one good buy was thai tea mix for half the price of online retailers.
i just like walking through grocery stores that have unusual items aimlessly and buying a few cheap items to try out, and the asian grocery stores have a better atmosphere than the hispanic ones.

I was hoping they might work as a standalone product, but they definitely needed some starch, which is okay because it turned them into a decent light lunch.
